Good post, might the leopard be changing some of its spots?.. ;-) [Post #89]

Thanks. But no brickbats for trying to sneak “purpose” in under the radar? :-)

Although I notice a few of your “spots” haven’t been all that evident of late or have faded somewhat. Or maybe they were just painted on to begin with ... :-)

maybe because the spots were all the result of stresses of a stressful life alone.

Who knows? I guess we all have a few of those types of spots brought on by stresses of one sort or another. Ever read the book or see the movie The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds? Quite a good analogy for that type of stress.

more plausible to argue that they are each projections of the human observers – reflections in a mirror.

But of course. The thought being that Joseph Cambel was very right in pointing out that hero has a thousand faces. His epic, four volume, "The Masks of God" does slap down those who insist that we are created in His image. The reality is that the scripture writers only created god in their image.

This is only one aspect of my doubts. The greatest and most frightening of my doubts is that certain scripture writers and interpreters are in it for the power and are the first to turn their backs on God for the security in their earthly power over some.

empathy for non-human life is as dead as yours

Well that's the way it goes.

Those non-humans take their risk at life as I do on the freeway, have the same chance as I. At least I break for those who also take their chance on the freeway. I could also wax into Darwin's dilemma of why nature is so cruel but then along comes diner time and I get as hungry as all others.

I have lived long enough to see four generations die before me. While that only accounts for less than a hundred people that I miss. This planet would be in dire straights if that cruelty did not exist.

BTW: the birds who dash their brains into a window see a reflection of themselves in the glass and are attempting to drive a competitor away.

Some contradictions there I think TFC. If you concede that god was created in our image – whether there was a necessity for it or not is another question – then you can’t very well say, reasonably in any case, that someone is turning their back on him, her or it – at least in the sense of there being some sort of autonomous entity that still exists after one has turned away.

Our normally resident Mourning Doves set up shop in my back yard and had one or two eggs getting ready for Spring hatching. Two crows came by and raided the nest, chomping down on the little ones before that happened. Just a scene of broken egg shells and fine down left. Guess we will have to wait till next year. Nature has a way of carrying on somehow.

No, I concede nothing here. I am casting doubt on the sincerity of fundamentalists who read the phrase, " ... God created man in His image and likeness... " and run with it. Even the scripture writers could only conceive of God as human like.

created in our image

What is it that was created in God's image. Since God doesn't have arms and legs, the image must be the soul. That part of us that would be of the same spiritual essence.

go ahead... I can take it.

Knowing that you would not let it go, I added something to let you know that I expected at least one shot from you.

Certainly have zero fear of your god.

You certainly need not fear my God, yet!

Why do you address posts to me as if I were a Bible thumper? I am a doubter and discuss to understand.

--------------------
Why do you ask? By now you should know that whateverhis name is now knows only 2 categories, Bible Thumpers and closed minded atheists. Both very small groups in the grand scheme of things.
