I am saying we need more stringent qualifications as to how those weapons are handed out. Handed out? You'd look a bit less silly if you could find a bit more accurate language. Weapons are not "handed out" anywhere in the US that I am aware of.

During my seven years here, I can honestly say that there is not one street in any Western European city that I've been to where I felt threatened by the possibility of becoming the target of a firearm, day or night. And you ASSUME that the gun laws are the only relevant difference? Surely the justice systems in place can't possibly have ANYTHING to do wih it!

So PYeager... since you apparently know the difference, explain to me what are the differences in the justice systems between European countries and the USA???

So PYeager... since you apparently know the difference, explain to me what are the differences in the justice systems between European countries and the USA??? So, Mr. Served-In-Our-Military-But-Ignorant-Of-US-History, you're asserting that countries in Europe coddle criminals as we do here?

Those who bray about Europe are clueless.  Different countries different constitutions

Euro Gun laws won't help here and no study establishes that they could

People who think constitutional rights should be limited are a good reason why the rest of us ought to be armed well

Nice try, but Cho got his guns ILLEGALLY.

In fact, he committed a felony to obtain them.

Europe? England?.Who cares about Europe's gun laws? The 2nd Amendment was created as a right,to keep us from becoming ruled by socialists like these countries.Unfortunately we have our fair share of elected representatives which do not represent the people but instead represent thier own socialist agendas. Its a shame kids in our schools now days are taught a watered down, politically correct version(if you want to call it that) of American History. No school that I know of will teach what the meaning or the intent of the 2nd Amendment is to kids, much less the fact of the Founding Fathers verbal intent of the 2nd Amendment. You can call this politically correct,I call it brainwashing.Ive seen the useless history books the schools use today.Manifest Destiny is wiped clean from them. What really happened to the Native Americans is wiped clean from them.Ask most teens what the blue and the gray refers to and see what answer you get.If they were taught anything at all about the Civil War thier answer will be the war to free the slaves.A result of the war, yes, but not what the war was about.

So when you say to configure our 2nd Amendment to model some other countries standards,I have to ask,who are you?,where are you from?,why did you cut history class so much?, and how long have you been deprived of oxygen?

Before I answer any of your questions... go read what it means to be a "socialist".  You apparently have never ONCE travelled outside of the USA and lived in Europe.  Europe and England are not "socialists"... they elect their government, almost exactly how we do ours.

LOL-so socialism cannot be elected?

Hitler -though a pernicious extreme of national socialism was elected

Pure democracy is almost always socialist

dude... you need to go look up "socialism".

It has NOTHING to do with how people wind up in office.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Here's the 2ND AMENDMENT:

"A well regulated militia, BEING NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Let me put this in easier, "down home", language for you with some historical background...

"Well folks, we just fought this war with England to gain our independance, using a militia.  Being that our government is so young and we DO NOT HAVE A BUDGET LARGE ENOUGH TO FUND A REGULAR STANDING ARMY... we're going to pass this amendment to the constitution that says that "ya'll can carry weapons", in case we need to call on you again to defend our young nation."

Whenever NRA and 2nd Amendment supporters quote the 2nd Amendment, such as you, they always seem to ONLY quote the second half of the entire sentence, and ALWAYS fail to mention the first half, which clearly describes the purpose that the 2nd Amendment was intended for.

No... you're incorrect as to who is bearing the "burden" today in our society when you state "more burden on the law abiding - no effect on criminals whatsoever."

The "burden" being carried today is by us law-biding citizens who don't care to own a gun, yet, the gun control laws are so lackadaisical that, as in the VT incident, ANY TOM, DICK, and HARRY can walk into a gun store and own a gun within one hour.

THE TRUE BURDEN IS THAT DUE TO OUR LACKADAISICAL GUN OWNERSHIP LAWS, 32 SUPER, BRIGHT, INTELLIGENT STUDENTS, WERE GUNNED DOWN SENSELESSLY.  THOSE 32 STUDENTS BORE THE BURDEN FOR WHAT YOU THINK IS  "YOUR RIGHT" FOR ANYONE TO OWN A GUN.

THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT, IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY,  WE PUT MORE REQUIREMENTS BEHIND ONE OBTAINING A DRIVER'S LICENSE THAN WE DO REGARDING ONE PURCHASING A GUN.
