"How sad to have nothing to believe in"

I can assure you that atheists have a god. His name is SELF.

Someone once said: "An atheist can't find God for the same reason a thief can't find a policeman". I think that pretty well describes the primary cause for atheism. Of course, spiritual ignorance would be a close second.

I can question your motives for theism.  Why go there?  Just accept that not everyone believes as you do and live and let live.

So what.  Someone also mistakenly said, "there are no atheists in foxholes."  And then thousands of atheists who are soldiers came out and made a mockery of "someone said".

What you should have said is, "I think that pretty well describes what I believe to be the primary cause for atheism."

And then the statement would have been unarguable.  You are wrong, deluded and mistaken, but what you believe is what you believe.

Good luck with that.

Ditto what physics said.  Why don't you tell your god next time you pray to him to come pay us atheists a visit?  He should know right where we're at, right?  That should end all doubt instantly.  No more theives--er, atheists!

Also, I would contend that you are the spiritually ignorant one.  You can not imagine a worldview outside of that painted by your narrow religion, and you are supremely and grossly ignorant with regards to the thinking, background, and motivations of atheists.  Many atheists I know are quite spiritual.  Spiritual is a state of mind, and requires no belief in the supernatural.  One does not need a creator god to feel awe when gazing at the heavens.

Ah, but what if God is part of self and self is part of god? Huh?

Sound advice but makes for boring message boards.

Lol, you haven't seen some of the libertarian boards that I have.  "Live and let live" is indeed sound advice, but hardly free from contention.

Especially when person A wants person B to leave him alone, but also still wants the right to force his ________ (morals/politics/religion/economic system/lifestyle/etc.) onto B.

Agreed, and I'm fine with a discussion about atheism/theism on the merits.  I just don't appreciate when my motives are called into question for no reason.

Like when someone does not want to pay taxes but wonders why they don't fix the streets!
