There was an anti-war TV ad in the 60's that showed Nixon and Kruschev fistfighting in a field. The tag line said, "Suppose they gave a war and nobody came?" I wish more people would follow Watada's example, then, perhaps, war would cease to be the answer to every difficulty this country faces. I am 60 years old, and in my lifetime, there have only been about 10 years that this country was not at war. Has it solved any problems? No. Has it taken the lives of many of our best and brightest? Yes. Really. What is the point? Surely we can do better than war.

I wonder what the soldiers he trained with think about him. He spends all that time leading them here in the U.S., and then when it is time to go do what they signed up for he says, see you guys, I'm not going. Is he planning on returning all the money the American people spent on him once he signs his book and movie deal?

I think the soldiers that he trained should probably not spend their time thinking about Watada. He made his own decision for his own reasons whether we agree or disagree with him. I think they should look very seriously at their reason for going to Iraq, or perhaps to Iran, and reach their own decision for their own reasons.

We would have chaos in the military if we let people pick and choose their battles. They went because they were ordered to. That is what you do when you volunteer to be a soldier.

I think you are correct. I have never been in the military and I am not sure that I would make a good soldier as the military would define it--that is, that I should blindly follow orders that I believe to be wrong in every way and to be to the detriment to my country and in violation of the constitution. I think that I am grasping at straws to think that the military can or will stop the war in Iraq, or at least stop it from spreading to other nations when the American public opposes it, and they have not stopped it; and Congress is simply discussing a resoltion without teeth.

all the money the American people spent on him Do you have even the slightest clue how much money he and other service members are "paid". Its a joke and its exactly why kids from wealthy families don't serve!
