I'd like to think that Peter had his own thoughts on what should happen "if"...why don't we just wait and see if perhaps in his last notes he was indeed thinking of us, and he has HIS ideas on who will carry on... God bless us all in our loss, Judy

I would also like to think that Peter may have indicated whom he would like to succeed him. In the meantime however, the debate is harmless and serves to aid in moving everyone beyond this overwhelming sense of loss. Peace julauded

I agree, I, like many thought Charlie Gibson would be a natural choice, however it would seem only natural that a young up and coming journalist should honor Jennings news chair by his presence. How saddened by the death of Peter.

I agree. Bob Woodruff is my choice for anchor. He has the intelligence and experience while still being young enough to meet the necessary energy demands. He is already developing his own style and depth.

Bob Woodruff
has such an easy-going yet stylish persona that reminds me of Peter. He is intelligent and I feel like I can trust him. Also he is a good contender versus Brian Williams. For anyone that thinks he is too young - my boyfriend saw him up close at a GMA concert and said he has a wrinkly forehead in person! :) (Just trying to lighten things up) I like that ABC had Charlie Gibson on initially as a transition, but I like him best in the morning with Diane. Also I think a younger person would help freshen up the nightly news. I like Elizabeth Vargas as well. She seems like one sassy lady who would be fun on a show like The View. I don't want to watch her on WNT every night however. Bob Woodruff is hot! Pick him ABC!

I think Bob Woodruff should be the one. I like what he does on the news, and his credentials mentioned in his bio are impressive. I really like Charlie, and think he's very capable, but I feel someone younger should be the choice.

I said I think someone younger, but I meant someone younger who definitely has experience, integrity, knowledge, charisma, and cares about what they are doing. Someone who was taught by and learned from Peter.

I, too, would like to see a woman at the helm like Elizabeth Vargas. However, if the PTB decide they have to hire from the 'outside', then I would love to see someone like Gwen Ifil from PBS come over to fill the post! I enjoy watching her on the News Hour and on Washington Week In Review. Not only is she a very erudite person, her reporting style is also fair and balanced. She has the necessary background and experience, and would bring a different perspective to the newscast. She would definitely be an asset to ABC News.

Another vote for Bob Woodruff. I've been watching him since he was a cub reporter here in Phoenix. He did outstanding investigative reporting even then (though he does bear the dubious honor of doing the segment that "jumped the shark" for the local broadcast). He was good then, he's excellent now. Intelligent, compassionate, fearless. Give it to Bob, the sooner, the better.

There are many people who can read copy on a TelePrompter. But the true test of an anchor is breaking news. Peter was simply the best I've ever seen at processing events as they were unfolding. He can ad-lib wonderfully, and it was 'poetic' to paraphrase Barbara Walters. I think Bob Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargas are great at reading copy...but put them in a live non-scripted environment...and you see their abilities. Charles Gibson has proven his ability to handle live news. Peter's death was a breaking story, and Charles handled that. A dark horse is Terry Moran...who is one of the most articulate reporters on the newscast, and regularly does the weekend news. He recently anchored the newscast from the Gaza turmoil, much like Peter did when he would anchor WNT at an event. I could tell that Peter was really fond of Terry's competence in his role at WNT. Nonetheless...it will be interesting to see what ABC does...and I will watch regardless.

Terry Moran? I haven't given him much thought; but yes, I could live with that decision. Especially after seeing his reporting from Gaza! julauded

This is an extremely big shoe to fill. There is absolutely nobody who can replace Mr. Jennings. Nobody. Whoever will be on the program will have a very hard time, if it all possible, to build his/her own legend. Mr. Jennings started his career as a teenager and perfected it. Nobody comes close.

To The Last Two Contributors; You are both absolutely correct and I am sure that, generaly speaking, most would agree with you. Peter cannot be replaced. However, the question posted is not who you feel will replace him but, who you feel might succeed (follow) him. Peter's impeccable credentials and personal attributes provide a marker by which contributors to this posting can compare and contrast candidates. Overall, the views have been interesting and enlightening. For example, while I've felt that Bob Woodruff was a suitable candidate, hearing what someone had to say yesterday has directed my attention to Terry Moran. As you say, Peter is irreplacable but, emotions aside, we must keep in mind that someone will eventually succeed him. Regards, Connie

What does everyone think of Dan Harris? Yes, he's young, but he could be the new face that ABC News will need to attract an ever-shrinking audience, especially among young adults.

I thing Bob Woodward would be a good replacement for Peter.
