Don't think your idea will happen in anyone's lifetime.  I do have some thoughts on the subject though.  Please see my post under the Earth Day heading "Alternative Fuels Will NOT Save The World Anytime Soon!"  I could be wrong, but until someone can prove otherwise I just don't think so.
