During my argument with Nel over the Brethren, the Sheep  & the Goats, Nel told me that she believes you have to do good works to be saved.

***********

That's Islam, not Christianity.  Putting good works AHEAD of grace and mercy is putting the cart before the proverbial horse.  Good works have a definite place, but not as a CONDITION to salvation.

Indeed. And you can't go wrong by using the Bible as your guage of what a Christian is and should ideally be.

Really?  Maybe you aught to read this.

Can you understand that Christian groups do not agree on this???? Just because other churches disagree with you does not make them wrong.

I couldn't care LESS what other "Christian groups" believe.

What matters is what the Bible teaches.

Ephesian 2:5, 8-9 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Actually the saying is "I couldn't care less."  Other Christians also follow the Bible, they just don't interpret it as you do. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus was telling His fellow Jews that they needed to help the poor or they were not serving Him. Yes, it really is that simple. There are other places as well that say one must walk the walk and noyt just talk the talk.

thanks for the proselytizing, but this is a Religion and Science forum. Where is there any science in the stuff you post. When Phil comes on here and shows the academic background on a lot of the scripture posted willy nilly by folks like you, he gets lambasted for being a whackadoodle or some such nuttiness.
Sad that certain folks are so sure about the 'truth' that they just ignore the real facts.

Nel, since they asked us, are you the person who believes people of non-Christian religions go to heaven as long as they do good things?  Or, do I have you mixed up with someone else?

I was trying to remember if it was you, because it might be why RM said you weren't Christian.  Technically, that would be a Universalist.

how come fundies run around calling other so-called christians not christian. really is irksome and pretty childish. So much of this is based on a literal reading of scripture that is a translation of some ancient text, but most religions of the world believe that christians are those who follow the teachings of christ. That would include Mormons. What do you think Mormons are, a cult? How about Catholics? How about Copts? Or any of the other Orthodox church followers.

I have been told NOT to post anything regarding Christianity on the Good Morning message threads.  Now you are telling me NOT to post anything regarding Christianity on the Religion and Science threads.

Do I see a pattern here?  What's left?

First and foremost, Mormons follow the teachings of Joseph Smith, the author of the Book of Mormon.  Not everything he taught is supported by the Bible, which any Christian should regard as the final word on the faith.

Mormons teach that Jesus and Lucifer were brothers.  I cannot tell you how shocked I was the first time I heard this.

Jesus is the Son of God, the second Person of the Holy Trinity,  Lucifer was an archangel, and ever since His fall has been better known as Satan, or the devil.  Brothers?  I don't think so.

You have oversimplified my position. All people go to "heaven" eventually. Catholics and others believe all good people go to heaven if they are doing in life what they believe is right.

I was trying to remember if it was you, because it might be why RM said you weren't Christian.

She says a lot of things. She isn't God so she doesn't know.

Technically, that would be a Universalist.

Christians and universalists (which Ruth has said she was) are not two different things.

yep, no proselytizing. Religion and Science is the name of the game. I never told him to refrain from posting about Christianity in the proper context.

First and foremost, you should debate that subject with mormons. They are better qualified to defend their religion. As for us bystanders, it just seems that fundies have been more than eager to show Mormonism is a cult and of course that led to persecution in the past. But then again, Catholicism is also targeted and the pope has been called the anti-christ. Very christian of ya!
The academic viewpoint is a bit different however.

I am most definitely NOT a universalist.  I do however, lean toward a belief in universal salvation, followed by judgment.

You almost did the same thing on a thread which has now been deleted.

That's why I did not respond to your accusation that I "misunderstand" Islam.

That threat was NOT about Islam.
