it's their loss as this could go for millions once the Vatican hears of it.... [Post #39]

The gullibility of the faithful never ceases to amaze me. They’re still trying to “prove” that the “Shroud of Turin” is the real-meal deal. That's gotta take first prize in the “Grasping at straws” contest ....

Still grasping at imaginary superstitious straws to bolster belief in your non-existing god?

NOPE - never did, never will.      Another futile attempt on your part to raise hackles.

Maybe you should have researched her out a bit more...

Already did - maybe you should not make so many assumptions - you're usually wrong.

"So does your science leave space for untestable faith? Do you believe in God?"

There's room there, and it could go either way. Faith just doesn't have anything to do with what I'm doing as a scientist. It's nice if you can believe in God, because then you see more of a purpose in things. Even if you don't, though, it doesn't mean that there's no purpose. It doesn't mean that there's no goodness. I think that there's a virtue in being good in and of itself. I think that one can work with the world we have. So I probably don't believe in God.

I have no problem with any of this whatsover ...    It is most unfathomable to me how you cannot distinguish the difference between this very professonal approach and the way you & Oring pimp for atheism - taking it one step further by spewing your disgusting anti-Christian bigotry here.

What happened to our boy Phil?  I do worry about him so... he should ask his doctor if he's healthy enough for activity in this forum... ;-) [Post #40]

Seems he may have been unhorsed by my “malicious rhetoric” – sensitive ears, I guess. Relative to which, I ran across an interesting observation by a British “literary theorist and critic”, Terry Eagleton, who was written extensively on “The God Debate” and he argued, in commenting on Hitchens, that:

One of the more agreeable aspects of Christopher Hitchens’ polemic against religion, God Is Not Great, is its author’s ready willingness to declare that he thinks religion poisonous and disgusting. Perhaps he finds it mildly embarrassing in his new, post-Marxist persona that “Religion is poison” was the slogan under which Mao launched his assault on the people and culture of Tibet. But he is right to stick to his guns even so. Beliefs are not to be respected just because they are beliefs. Societies in which any kind of abrasive criticism constitutes “abuse” clearly have a problem.

Amen, Mr. Eagleton ….

VERY CLEARLY she has not discaded anything ... like any good scientist, she leaves the possibilites out there -- note her continual use of words such as probably, perhaps, or could be  and phrases such as "we have a good chance" (for this or that).    Had you done any research at all or even browsed excerpts from her interviews, you would have known that.        But you go ahead and just keep dreamin this stuff up if it makes you happy.

Slogans are slogans, but I think oftentimes people come up with similar wording without thinking or knowing that they are quoting someone else.

Sorry, you are referring to what?      [Though I agree with you.]

I would say it is a very long ways from that – more like “abrasive criticism” or “calling a spade a shovel”. Surprising that you don’t consider Bakerman’s post that started this thread as “malicious rhetoric” and far worse than anything I’ve said. I mean, threatening people with hell-fire and eternal damnation because they don’t toe the line over picayune details of morality really has to take the cake.

You’d have a lot more credibility if you addressed those problematic behaviours in your own bailiwick first. For some assistance you might take a look at this article in Time magazine, apparently by a religious journalist, which happens to detail some more charming Christian fundamentalists:

David Caton owes me one. I interviewed the head of the Florida Family Association last week during his bigoted but successful crusade to get companies like Lowe's to pull ads from All-American Muslim, the Learning Channel reality show about a community of Muslim Americans.

The way you promoted her in your first post was misleading, as it implied she as religious ...

Only in your warped mind.         I quoted verbatem from her interview in my first post - you read into it whatever was convenient for you (as usual).

... never mind that now though,  please tell us about the god particle (Higgs boson) and how that is related to hell and heaven and an extra dimension?

(your response above edited for clarity & removal of unwarrated remarks) .... Read the interview - do the reseach yourself - if evidence of an extra dimension is observable it will open an array of possiblities ... not necessarily anything having to do with heaven and hell - but that is one suggestion.     If you don' agree wth my opinion, fine ... At least try responding properly ...  your dialogue has been extremely counter-productive as of late.

Down but not out, huh?

tsk tsk .... Too funny ... you know me -- never down (glass always half full rather than half empty) and most certainly not out, at least until my time on earth is terminated.

'Funding' Phil!  This country has a religious right majority that likes to filter and allocate monetary policies through their god myths first

SO WHAT ??     Politics, politics .... take it to the politics board if you're so concerned.      There's a religious left also ... a non-religious right and left.        A tea party .... they all have their agendas and they all stink to high heaven with their lies and wishful thinking.        That's why I ignore politics and politicians.                Corporate greed run this country ... not any religous right majority.            Go talk about it with the people on the politics forum -- or even GMA..    Sorry- but I have no interest in that topic.

Stop being so damned arrogant and don't change anything in my wording

Uh-oh ... someone's got their undies in a bundle again.     If you used adequate dialogue here - sans the innuendoes, and abrasive words & phrases - we all might benefit ... but as long  you both continue down that path, I will be here to throw it back at you ... sooooo - I suppose a batch of posts from this thread will vanish into cyberspace soon.

I'm going to bed... besides, what was it you said once, 'I have bigger fish to fry'... good nuff !!      I'm gonna turn in as well .. Happy Winter Solstice & A Merry Christmas to you.

Steers is still patiently waiting, have fun! ;-)

... and He'll be waiting for awhile longer I'm sure ... athough I am watching and hoping for improvement in the advertising/commercialization sort of attitude he displays here, a downshifting of the abrasive verbage he utilizes in his corresponence, and a marked reduction in his preponderence for referencing sources that support only his agenda and summarily dismissing with prejudice those that don't.    As I said before, I think he mayhae muchtoo offer partcipants in this forum if he would just get off the religion bashing bandwagon, and focus on something he may have expertise in - something actually worth discussng - rather than criticizing & debating in endless circles.

Ya'll have fun this weekend with whatever holiday you happen to celebrate ..
