Being all knowing, all seeing, god had a feeling that a talking snake would mess things up, so he gave us the "darker suntan" gene, knowing that apple eating would make their offspring want a vacation in Africa, at some point in the future. He works in mysterious ways, you see.

That is an excellent question.  I've heard many explanations for it, but remain baffled about it myself.  I think what ever happens to us in the end of this experience is on a need to know basis.  We'll find out when we need to know.  I imagine it is a bit of a surprise for everyone since none of us really know.  So many people use religion to comfort their fear of the unknown.  But even science can't explain how we got to be all these different colors and cultures.  The latest "out of Africa" theory has yet to explain some important details itself.

The "Garden of Eden" story  first appears in the Gilgamesh Epic, which was the creation story in the Baal religion. You may remember that early Christians existed along with other religious beliefs and the Baal religion was referred to as a religion of idol worshippers. Since the Gilgamesh Epic predates Christianity by about 1000 years, most bible scholars credit this as the actual source of the Christian creation story.

Ethical teachers have existed throughout human history. Some of those ethical teachers are said to have been the product of unique birth. ( Budda's mother was a white elephant)

Humans living in social environments require control of group and individual behavior. The control includes laws, customs, traditions, mores, and religion. In the case of religion, the goal is an ethical population of like-thinking individuals. The idea that ethical laws are handed down by a diety is quite common, its hard to argue, and the true believers amass a body of rhetoric allowing them to argue their point just as the non-believers do. No matter which side of this you're on, the evidence you have accepted is convincing to you. Ethnocentrism, a universal human characteristic, adds fuel to the debate without adding evidence to the discussion.

Adam and Eve...did they even exist? How did the Hebrews even know their names, since it was eons before written language came into existence? Genesis is all myth, nothing else.

Don't post anything unless you've done your research. Better yet, stop getting your scientific information from religious books or religious leaders. Here's a good place to start: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/12/071213121006.htm

think the philosophical point of the Adam & Eve story is this:

The cognitive abilities and social skills of human beings allow us to empathise with others. This is the "knowlege of good and evil" referred to in Genesis. Life is easier (more of a "paradise") and simpler for animals with less developed cognitive and social abilities.

Socially integrated humans understand that they must often put aside their own urges and needs for the greater good. To behave otherwise at the expense of others is evil.

Humans developed to this point and paradise was lost...

The "Adam and Eve" is a creation story with a deeper meening; don't be fooled with the superficial and outer fundamental story of a man and a woman eating fruit or having sex in a garden.

To you it has deeper meaning.  To me it's just another creation myth story.
