Actually God determins what is honorable.  And he wrote what an honorable way to live is in his word.  The BIBLE: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

You know what the Devil has you right where he wants you and is not going to do anything to you to change your beliefs because he knows he has you.  He does not want you to believe in hell because then you might turn to God for a savior.  Oh and by the way the devil is real his demons are real and I have seen them first hand.  Make no mistake God is real and so is Satan.

And you say that you have seen them....  What a hoot!  Please describe said demons.  I would love to know what to look for.  Where did you "see" them?

Actually, the book of John (Chapter 1) say that the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  Then, a little later, it says that the Word became flesh and made it's dwelling among us.  What do you believe that means?

Maybe you should try praying and asking him to make him self real to you.  Then you would believe, here is a question if Christians are wrong about Jesus what do they have to loose?  But what if you are wrong?  Really think about that and don't just chalk this up to another Nut Job trying to get you to believe.  I will say though if you don't have an open mind about this it won't do you any good to pray.  But trust me as a former agnostic, if you open your mind to the possibilities of God and a messiah and you give him a chance he will answer you and make him self real to you.

dharris6877, ok.  God, I believe in you and that you sent jesus to cleanse my sins.  3 minutes have gone by and nothing.  I was merely talking to myself and  you need to accept that.  Intellectual honesty is what is wrong.  If I'm wrong then it would be  a first in US history.   I am convinced because of the graves that man dies and decomposes.  Care to show me otherwise?  You are still an agnostic, you don't know if god exists.   God/jc is real, really a mythical being in a story.

Just an observation.  I listen to a guy named Alistar Begg in the mornings when I drive to work.  I listen to hear how preachers describe christian life, although I am a strong athiest, I am interested.

Well, this morning he was talking about Jesus.  He said Jesus is god, god and Jesus are the same.  That it is a mystery and should be accepted, and worked out later.  Made no sense, as did his ascertations that Jesus is god.

If god had to come to earth to understand how humans lived, to be one, then he is not omnipotent.  He doesn't know everything in the world.  How could an omnipotent being not know what life as human is like? Why would god need to put our "salvation" from himself into the world?  How could god be so mistaken and not see the future of mankind and thus would have known that the flood would not solve the problems he saw with mankind? There were so many questions in my mind after this sermon. I just can't accept these things as facts, as they defy and logic.  So christians want us to believe but not question.  Some god they have there.

Closer to the truth is that Jesus never existed.  God does not exist.  Christians believe because they have to believe. Not to believe would mean that all thier scary monsters are real.  It is a shame to be so afraid that one doesn't think logically or critically.  What a waste of human beings.

I see your point.  If you start by saying "If God had to come to earth to understand how humans live", then all your questions, conclusions would seem logical. However, He already knew how we lived and that was not why He came.  He came to show us how to live, and since God established the penalty for sin is death, and that a proper sacrifice was needed, Jesus came on our behalf out of the desire for the Father and Son to be reconciled to their creation.

I agree that God knows everything that will happen before it does, but just because He knows our choice does not eliminate the validity of that choice.  I could make a robot and program it to love me, but would that be love?  Of course not.  He gave us a free will to recognize Him as our loving creator, love Him and place Him on the throne of our lives, or reject Him and place ourselves in the top spot.  Satan had that same choice.  There are tons of questions that I have as a Christian, and the bible does not teach us to check our brains at the door.  As humans we could not possibly grasp all that God is, we do not even use 100% of our mental capacity, and if He created us then even with 100% we would still be lacking.  The greatest man-made computer in the world was programmed by humans, yet it cannot fathom everything that is inherent within us, and it still has to be plugged in to a power source to support it. So we can only know about God through what he has revealed in his word.

His word says that there is a Father, a Son and a Holy Spirit, completely equal and eternal, yet separate and with distinct purposes.  I agree, the most bizarre mystery there is.  I can continue to try to wrap my mind around that and all its implications, or simply try to understand all that the bible reveals, and hope that when I see him face to face, all my questions will be answered, or that I will not need one because I am consumed with eternity and all that it will bring.

If you have serious questions as an atheist, you should not check your brains at the door either, and toss out rambling assertions, without studying the bible within the context of each writer and what they were addressing through the divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit.  Because as quiet as it is kept, true science, raises many more questions regarding the theory of evolution, Darwinism and other things that are more and more being taught as fact, yet not proven.  And guess what, when stacking up these theories against the biblical account, it takes more FAITH, to believe the theories.

The "point" to being an atheist is to live the best life possible, and that includes living in the real world, not a fantasy world.  I understand that religion is the only thing keeping a lot of people from being nihilists, but like nihilism itself, in the end religion is just a belief, with nothing to back it up.

No wonder so many people hate atheists so much.  Atheists for the most part have not only learned to live with life, but to thrive in it.  The fact that life is finite and that there is no afterlife makes it all the more important that we live the best, most fulfilling lives we can while we're still around to enjoy it.  There are no second chances after you die, no thinking "this life doesn't matter all that much, because I'll be spending eternity in a better place."  This is it.  As relatives (albeit distant) to apes, larva, bacteria, etc., we are a part of this world, subject to all the same laws of nature, fortunes and misfortunes, joys and suffering, living and dying.  "Human exceptionalism," the belief that humans are special and favored over the other animals of this planet, has no basis in reality.  We are only as special as what we make ourselves to be.

I for one intend on living a pretty good life.  What about you?

Listen...To each his/her own. Why can't we live in a world where each person's beliefs are respected. I like to think that if there is a God, he/she would want peace and love for all mankind. Religion tends to be divisive, one believing that theirs has all the answers. I went to parochial school as a child and if there is one thing that I know, it is Jesus's teachings. He would be appalled at what people do and say in his name, as would Mohammed.

"Why can't we live in a world where each person's beliefs are respected."
"Religion tends to be divisive, one believing that theirs has all the answers."

Aren't these two statements pretty much mutually exclusive?  How can you (the general "you", not you Doritoes62 specifically) respect others' beliefs when your own beliefs tell you that theirs are wrong and that you must do what you can to spread your own beliefs?  It's nice to live & let live, but that's not what the great majority of religions teach.

"I went to parochial school as a child and if there is one thing that I know, it is Jesus's teachings. He would be appalled at what people do and say in his name,"

You sound like the tolerant type, but I can see a xtian fundamentalist saying the exact same thing.  People have different interpretations of Jesus' teachings, interpretations which tend to square with their own preconceptions and personal preferences.  Your interpretation sees a loving, tolerant Jesus, while a fundie reading the same bible can see Jesus as a vengeful, intolerant Crusader.  Do we stress the teachings in Matthew, or the ones in Leviticus?  Do we live by Deuteronomy, or Luke?  Book of Ruth, or Book of Revelations?  Same bible, very different worldviews.

To say Jesus Christ never existed is a gross misperception of history.  Whoever said this has never sought out the truth about Jesus Christ.  He was a Jew.  He came to earth to teach us a message.  The gift of eternal life shall be given to anyone who wills to treat others the way they want to be treated.  When Jesus came and eliminated the priestly middlemen of the Temple in His day by giving forgiveness for free, they decided He interfered with their monetary rewards for sacrificing lambs for sins committed.  At this time it was the Ten Commandments used as a standard to determine what sin was.  Jesus brought us the spirit of the law.  And you cannot put His message in old religious bottles.  He still is a Jew and anyone who treats others the way they want to be treated is a new Jew.  All humans are required to love others the way they love themselves.

We have OWS because of people who refuse to do God's will.  Those being opposed are those in the government who refuse to let go of their desire to use others for their own selfish interests.  Politicians and preachers use others through messages of manipulation to gather taxes and tithes from people they manage to capture with their laws and dogmas.  We need to fear all political  and religious deceptions and lies for they create bondage to higher authorities which only want to use their victims.

The  murder of Jesus Christ came about because of the love of money, not the love of God.

Any atheist who treats others the way they want to be treated is not a true atheist.  Selah.
