Hi ABC,

My dad (Dale, 53 years old) has been a farmer all of his life.  Since his dad died in 1988 he has been struggling with issues with his brother who my dad farmed with as well as trying to provide for his family.  To help make ends meet over the past few years, my dad has taken on two part time jobs, one as a meter reader for Austin Utilities in Austin and another for Road Maintenance (Mowing ditches, Plowing snow and grading roads) for our townships that we live in.  To provide more financial securities for his family he has applied several time to a job that provides a great salary and benefits package but was turned down both times.  A few weeks ago, he applied again for this job and today was turned down again.  He is devastated.  He told me this is the third strike and that he will never apply for that job again.  His heart is broken, he was looking forward to that job.  Its something that he would be good at because my dad can do practially most anything.  Why do employers hire younger people who might last longer at a job with no experience, instead of people like my dad, who has experience to do pretty much anything but is older?

Business does this because it is cheaper for them.  They don't care about qualifications, they would whether, "Hire the McDonald's worker and train them."  The problem I saw is they don't train them.
