I have often wondered what would happen in cooperate Amercia if we would punish and fine the decision makers to the extent that it would not be profitable [fines to exceed their salary and perks] for them to make bad and breaking the law type deiesions. Many of their decisions are to enhance stock prices and then the run with profits leaving stockholder holding the bag in the long run.
I worked at Delco Electronics in the 70's and when corp. officials started manufacturing in Mexico they did not worry about dumping very toxic chemicals [which wer not allowed in the US], but not prohibited in Mexico. But the results were the same both places [birth defects and workers health were effected]. They should have been punished rather than over compensated for lowering cost when they knew of the long term effects on human health. No better way to punish them but take their ill found wealth away in fines, lawsuits, and time in jail.
But I guess this is impossible considering our present type of legislaters and judges. Too much payoffs.
