    • Bush's "economic stimulus" has a marriage penalty??

What's this I've been hearing about a "marriage penalty" built into Bush's "economic stimulus" tax rebate? Supposedly, it will go only to individuals making $85,000 or less, or to couples making $110,000 or less. That's just plain WRONG!

My wife and I each make less than $85K, so we would qualify separately IF we weren't married. However, because our combined income is just over $110K, we're being punished for being married

WHAT KIND OF GOVERNMENT POLICY IS THAT?

Didn't you know - you're rich! Congratulations! I know exactly what you're talking about. You work hard and earn a good living and by doing that, you're eligible to pay a lot of taxes. You mean some people don't get all that tax money back at the end of the year? My husband used to work with a woman who wasn't married (never married) and had 3 kids. She earned around $20,000/year and received about $6000 back in taxes.  All I can suggest is to buy your wife some flowers and be grateful for being married - is the alternative really better than the lousy $600? :)

Check again..... Rebates would go to people earning below a certain income cap, likely individuals earning $75,000 or less and couples with incomes of $150,000 or less.

You make $170,000.00...

No. Please go back and READ my first post.  My wife and I each earn under $85K, and our combined income is just over $110K.

Where did your $170,000 figure come from???

Seems pretty silly to me that your more concerned about a Stimulus Package that will be too little way too late, and don't bother mentioning the real reason the Country is in such a mess. The price of gas shoots through the roof, and along with it everything else follows it. Everything you now buy is inflated due to the artifically overinflated price of gas. Everything that is except paychecks. Sure, you'll hear that adjusted to inflation that the price is right, but they won't mention that adjusted to inflation, your paycheck is probably earning something like 1975 wages.

Put a little pressure on your Representatives to do something about the price of gas, or get your wages up to the level to match the inflated price of gas and the rest will take care of itself. Think about this one last thing, who will this package help the most? Not the wage earner that will get the small amount of cash. Who do you think has to put all that money back into the bank for the Government? We do! Big Business will end up with the bulk of your money, making thier profits soar even higher, therefore once again overinflating the Economy. Doing something to bring the price of gas to the level it should be would give an immediate break to those who need it most!

Dear Unfair:

This bad economy is treating most of us unfairly; and if not against you, then you are not one of the most.

Really,

With our country in billions of dollars worth of debt I am not for a stimulus package. I would rather see this money go to our service men and women who are fighting for a country that hates us. And we will be taxed on this so called stimulus package. It is bull really. Don't spend it until you get it.  Anything can happen.

Don't even spend it WHEN you get it. Stick it in the bank for a rainy day. It'll be pouring soon....
