I went to Social Services on Tuesday (1/8/08) to get food stamps and some kind of aide, but was refused, because I get $25.00 a month from SSI.  Now SSI is trying to dispute this pityful amount that I get.  My Social Security is less than $800.00 a month.  How am I supposed to live on that? I pay for a car that I cannot do without. SSI thinks that they are doing me a favor paying me $25.00.  Social Services turns me away.  These people that have never had to wonder where the next dollar is coming from, that make these decisions, should have to stand in my shoes.  They couldn't handle it.

I totally understand where you are coming from I get a little over 600 a month from my social security and it is impossible to live off of and when you try to turn to HHS they usually don't care about you unless you have a kid! I my self also fall through the cracks of the mess of the system. I have a chronic illness and can not work and since I don't have any kids they could care less if I end up living on the streets! What are people like us suppose to do!? I have even been trying to figure out some kind of work from home that I can do just to survive but that has got me no where, and I'm not trying to get a free ride, I really do need help! I'm sure you know exactly what I mean! I don't like the fact that I can no longer support myself but I have no choice! I also agree with you if some of these people had to live in our shoes for once maybe they would understand how hard it is to be sick in the first place and then to try to stay alive and keep a roof over our heads or food on the table. I guarantee that none of them would be able to survive. The system has got to change for people like us that get forgotten and left out to fend for our selves when we cant!
