I work part time for my company. Over the last few months, my boss has been working to get me a promotion - salary change along with new title. He was told last week, however, that he could not promote me because I am part time. He was told it is the company's "policy". Nothing is written, but he thought it soon would be. He said he doesn't agree with this, but his hands are tied by the president and HR.

I am furious!! I feel the largest percentage of people working part-time are women (working mothers). Is this not some form of sexual discrimination against women and working mothers?

Maybe not "sexual" discrimination, but seems it could be just plain discrimination. Push for just getting a full time position there and then be able to be promoted.

All companies are seeing the benefits of not hiring full time employees. No health insurance benefits, No overtime pay, etc...  It isn't any type of discrimination. It's just their way of keeping more of the profits.

No, it is not discrimination. Companies want to get as much as possible out of you for as little as they can get away with. There are some exceptions, but this is extremely common for low wage jobs that can be done by just about anyone. You do not see it as much with skilled positions.
