I worked for 2 decades at 3 top large large firms.  They are all alike.

The secretaries are demeaned and not respected.  I can't believe this goes on and on, yet it does.  I

It also seems the better skilled, intelligent and professional you are the less like you are to suceed.  The secretaries who usually get fired, are fired for not stroking the ego of their boss and for being honest.  It seems the attorneys perfer secretaries who cohort with their blaming everyone else, when it is not merited.

It is no better between the secretaries.  The secretaries way of making themselves appeared skilled is by trying to sabotage the repuation of the very skilled.  The secretaries seek the help of the skilled, but then stab them in the back after.

I have so many stories, and so much to tell.

ANY OTHER LEGAL SECRETARIES HAVE HORROR STORIES TO TELL ?

As a former legal secretary, I personally experienced being passed over for a younger, prettier, shaplier woman at one law firm.  Although I had more seniority and had been a faithful employee with spotless job performance, she was retained, not I.

At another firm, I suspected my boss was having affairs.  My boss eliminated me, probably because his wife liked me and I encountered her occasionally and he probably feared I might disclose his "secret" to her.

They may not have a law degree, but after working as a legal secretary or legal assistant at large law firms for several years, one learns quite a bit about the legal field.  Many attorneys do not show legal secretaries or their assistants respect they ought to.

I've found many women at law firms to be cliquish and display high schoolish behavior, indicating their level of emotional maturity to be seriously stunted.  If you're not young, attractive or wear stylish clothes, you'll probably find yourself on the outside of their circles.

I loved the legal field, but found that lawyers change firms and firms downsize due to budget cuts, so did not find stability in employment in this occupation.

I've worked for big law firms and have never experienced anything like that.  Some attorneys can be demanding and some can be mean, but there are people like that everywhere.  Most secretaries have been pretty decent.  I've been a legal secretary for over 20 years.   That's terrible that you had to experience that.
