Congrats on quiting, I (in my opinion) think setting a date for stopping is one way to do it if your getting prepared and gathering information from others on how they got through the bad/tempting times(and there will be plenty) and even joining a support group...As far as getting rid of ash trays and ciggs that's just trivial stuff, I had ripped up cartons of cigarettes only to find myself digging in the garbage later that day and smoking butts....The best way I think is to know when your body is ready to quit, I tried numerous times only to find myself bumming cigarettes, setting a new quit date and bragging to friends that I'm down to 10 ciggs a day and yes lying to people and myself...I found my right time one New Years eve while playing cards most of the night I smoked 6 packs(not beer, cigarettes lol) and the next day when I woke up I could hardly breathe...That was 17 years ago this New Years and I have never had a cigarette to my lips since, Hard parts--Morning coffee, relaxing, having a drink(found myself drinking more) my wife/family smoking, being in a house/car/bar/work where people smoked, Its funny cigar smoke always smelled(still does) so good after I quit and I never even smoked them, thank God for smoke free places now and the first couple years I dreamt about smoking...I have never had support on my quiting from anyone and did it all on my own because it was my time!.. You will soon find yourself starting to belittle others that smoke, I had alienated some of my best friends and workers because of my "why do you smoke those horrible thing" attitude and even had my wife and others in tears many times...Some of my sad parts of smoking was when my 15 year old son and I were fishing on a very long pier and I ran out of cigarettes and started to get nicotine panic withdraws so I sent him down to the pier store with my drivers licence and he came back with the cigarettes but no matches and I had a fit and slapped him over a Da** cigarette...Sad...Driving to work one day my last cigarette before work fell under my seat and I got so panicked I caused an accident trying for it...Lots of more horror stories both while smoking and after quiting...28 days for you, next step is 28 weeks/months/years...God Bless and good luck...~Raddy~
