My last cigarette was 4/27/01, just over 4 1/2 yrs. ago. I am smokefree today because of the miracle of support & encouragement I find here on a daily basis: http://boards.webmd.com/topic.asp?topic_id=48 I smoked over 44 yrs., addicted to nicotine from the womb; neither parents quit smoking; Mother died at 59 of emphysema; Father died at 66 from lung cancer. I refuse to die with a cig hanging from my mouth, stinking from stale cigs. No one has to quit alone. Support and encouragement are out there. All we have to do is ask. Be a winner...Become smokefree! --Still a Quitter--Still Grateful--Mary Ann

Congrats all the way, I like your strong character. Tomorrow will be 8 months for me, I have smoked nearly 28 years and this is the longest I have went without one single cigarette, I tried many different ways in the past , but I went out and Eighty dollars on Patchs and nicotine gum and also incorporated some breathing exercises, and I am still going strong. I consider myself an exsmoker, not a nonsmoker, I know what smokers go thru and I know it is not easy, I smoke only a half pack a day, but the gum really carried me thru and I am a firm believer in that product, I feel great, and want to help anyone who needs support. Another post had already packed his life away just waiting to die, I will leave that in Gods hands , My wife and child are non smokers so I can tell you that really helped curb any temptation, we were not born into this world with a cigarette in our mouth, our body will do what we make it do

Congrats to both of you! February will be 2 years for me. I quit cold turkey, and its the best thing, and the hardest thing, I have ever done. Everytime I wanted a cigarette I went for a walk. I have lost 20 pds., and feel great. I am a different person I was 2 years ago. Change is a hard thing for people to go thru, but most of the time it is always for the better. I can only pray I didnt wait too long.

I give you a lot of credit for going cold turkey and making it almost 2 years, that must have been difficult, I dont think I could have done it without help from some type of aid but, we all know what works best for us, It sounds like your life is going for the better and as far as your last paragraph , "think positive" Yes you can!!!!!

Hip Hip Hurray, congradulations. I quit 8 months ago and although it is not that long ago,I just wanted to say that I did itcold turkey and I smoked for 10 years. The trick for me was not wanted cigarettes, lighters, perfume, and ash trays to be a part of my life anymore. Good Luck!!
