Today I watch the evening news honoring the WWII veterans and remembering D'Day and to my dismay I didn't see anyone that represented the majority on soldiers on the front line (Normandy Northern France Rhineland)on D'Day.  My father was blessed to receive a honorable discharge 12/26/1945.  He is a survivor of the attach on America - D'Day and is currently 97 years of age.  The return home to America was bitter sweet during the 1940's perhaps that's why we don't see our African Americans (Blacks - Negroes) that served as proudly as those that seem to make the headlines.  He's my hero.

there were no combat black soldiers at D-Day. Sad but true.

FYI, most blacks were relegated to combat support (supply) units. There were a few anti-aircraft units that served mainly in the Pacific and then there was a tank destroyer unit or two in Europe, one of which was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. It was a hard fought battle by blacks to serve their country, but full integration only came with Truman and service in the Korean war.
