I work at Wal-Mart and have owned my home for 9 years. In 2008 Bank of America bought my mortgage that was through Countrywide. I have had nothing but trouble ever since. In August of 2010 I applied for the Making Home Affordable Program for a home loan remodification. In February of 2011 I received a letter stating that I did not qualify for the program. I attempted to pay my homeowner's insurance back in February and couldn't because it was already paid. When I found out that Bank of America had paid it, I tried calling but of course got the run around. Their customer service is terrible. When I did get a hold of their escrow dept., they told me that automatically when you apply for the Home Remod Program you are opened an escrow account...is this even true? So they never notified me that they were paying my taxes and insurance because in the past 6 years I always have paid it myself. I told them that I had received the letter that I was denied the program and they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I then started receiving statements saying that I needed to pay this money back which totaled approximately $2800. This past weekend they called stating that I was 2 months behind in my house payments (which I have been making all along but in the amount of $514 which does not include the escrow) which are now over $1,000. If the money is not paid back to them by the end of June they will start foreclosure proceedings on my house. I got transferred to the escrow dept and talked to a gentleman named Kyle. He told me that his records showed that the loan remodification was just closed in May. He stated that an escrow account is opened automatically when you apply for the remodification program and they will not close the account until the money is paid back and the account is up to date. Also Bank of America has reported to the credit bureau that I am behind in my payments. So to set the record straight, I applied for the Making Home Affordable Program because my hours keep getting cut at work and I was struggling to make my $514 house payment. Now, not only has my house payment went up another $500 but they will keep adding to the escrow account and not close it until it is up to date. I need help but do not even know where to go to get it. How can these people get away with stuff like this? This company should be called "Screw over Homeowners of America" because that is exactly what they are doing and getting away with it too.
