I like to ask others to say prayers for me sometimes. I noticed that atheists seem to have a problem with this.

Please say prayers to Zeus and Aphrodite, and Mercury for me and my family.

I have noticed that christians seem to have a problem with this.

when you say you like to ask others do you mean random people in the street or are you talking about fellow worshipers?

I have this image of you asking total streangers in the street to pray for you which i'm finding slightly odd but very funny :0)

When you say athiests seem to have a problem with it explain what you mean - as an athiset i'd have no problem with you asking me to pray for you as long as you don;'t have a problem being told "no"

Have people got angry at you then?

You can not have freedom of religion without freedom from religion.  The whole point of freedom of religion is that people should be free to believe as their conscience tells them to, without coercion or interference from government.  But if you do not have freedom from religion, this means government is favoring a particular belief set (belief in a deity) and discriminating against another (those who do not believe in gods and/or religions).

Also if you do not have freedom from religion, then government is free to set up a state religion, just as if there were no freedom of religion.  Gov't just tells you in that case that you are still free to believe in your own religion, but it will teach the state religion in the schools and give preferential treatment to state religion adherents in gov't policies.  Without freedom from religion, freedom of religion is meaningless.  Freedom from religion isn't just for atheists and non-affiliated theists.

Besides, aren't believers always saying that atheism is just another religion anyways?

Here is a great article on freedom from religion and its implications.
