There was an incorrect fact given by Jeremy Hubbard during the Tuesday morning World News Now newscast, after the "News Vault" story on Don Haskins
Bob Knight is not the winningest college basketball coach. He is the winningest NCAA men's basketball coach.
That honor belonged to Dick Baldwin, with 40 seasons at Broome Community College and five at SUNY-Binghamton (now Binghamton University), Baldwin amassed a 961-341 record when he retired in 1996. A 74% winning percentage.
He held the record until 2005 when he was surpassed by Three Rivers Community College coach Gene Bess. He ended his career with an astonishing 1027-270 record. A 79% winning percentage.
Bob Knight had won 902 at the time of his retirement. With a 902 - 371 record... he doesn't even have the best winning percentage at 71%.
Another coach, with many wins was Jerry Tarkanian with Long Beach, UNLV and Fresno State. With 990 he would be 2nd... but due to issues with the NCAA, may not count.
