When I read about the billions of US dollars being spent on the Irag war each month,  I am appalled.   We spend more money on foreign citizens than our own poor and uninsured.   Trickle down is not working.  It is time for the Democrats.  Universal healthcare's time has come.

I agree.. To many people living right here in our own country are needing help and we are sticking our noses up at them and going over to other countries and shelling out millions to help them.  And we wonder why our kids today don't give a rip about working etc... It's the WHO cares attitude and well it may just come up and bite us in the butt......

I can testify first-hand how inadequate health care for children is, specifically in TX, since I am the parent of a disabled child born in TX.  We could never qualify for services for her even though she has been disabled from birth.  The waiting list in TX averages 7-10 years; just recently we received a notice that she was eligible for services after being on the waiting list for 3-4 years.  Last year, we moved to NC since we have family here, and we felt Dee would qualify for services--she did within 30 DAYS of moving to a different state.  People are leaving the State of Texas in droves because of the state's inability to provide for the future---children.

This crisis is totally unacceptable.  I applied for CHIP in December when my husband lost his job.  We were told we had to go through Federal assistance first even though I knew we didn't qualify for that.  The local office denied the Federal coverage and informed me that they were forwarding the information to CHIP.  Okay, I knew that was coming.  I called February 13 when I didn't hear anything.  One person told me they had the application.  Then I had another tell me they didn't have it.  It was a vicious cycle that even the supervisor was involved with.  Finally, as of JUNE 1, they are covered.  I'm not getting reimbursed for ANY of my two kids visits.  My 4 year old actually got really sick during this time.

The MOST insulting... I wrote a letter to the Governor and tried to file a report with the Insurance Commission's office.  To this day, I haven't heard back from either.  That's pathetic.

I wish I knew how to get more involved!  Any thoughts would be great.

It is very sad that the Federal Government is allowing funds to offset the State's cost for various programs that often do not include county programs, community programs, and faith based initiatives.  Families and kids that are falling through the cracks often receive their medical, dental, mental health, and chemical dependency through these programs.  It is way past time that the Government step up to the plate and recognize that the present system is not working.  If it was working, we wouldn't have a never ending cycle of families utilizing meth and other drugs.  We wouldn't have so many kids in foster care or on the streets.  Put tax payers dollars where it really counts and works.  Who do you think is picking up the pieces?  Faith based groups are trying to reach these groups of people so that they can find God's grace and the healing they can receive by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
