I was quite disturbed on your report on James J. Regan. Although it is always sad
when someone loses a family member or loved one, this report gives the impression,
whether intended or not, that service in the military is always an honorable choice; that
his decision to serve was based on a desire to give back to his country and that he
"...always wanted to be a ranger". For many of us there is nothing honorable about
fighting in a war that dishonors all American Citizens. Your report also implies that
somehow Americans in Iraq are more honorable than the tens of thousands of
Iraqi Citizens massacred by the massive killing machine of the US Military.
It is this type of report that makes me normally leave the room when my wife turns
on the news. I find that your choice of News Topics ignores the reality of the world,
fails to inform the American Citizen and otherwise turns what should be a counterpoint
to the American Government into a propaganda machine. If you want to see a model
for how news can be reported in a very informative way you might look at Comedy
Central's "Daily Show" and "Colbert Report".

Although I agree with your opinion about the war and those behind it, I cannot support your contention against Jimmy Regan.  Let's give credit where it is due -- to those for whom fighting for the U.S. is an honorable choice.  Didn't you learn your lesson after the Vietnam War?  Condemn those who initiate the war but not the soldiers for whom military service is a calling.  Our aim should be to stiffen the backbones of Congress and those who do not want us to become involved in wars of choice, not necessity.

You miss my point. Its the choice of topics by ABC thats the problem. By focusing
on the Tragedy of a single family and making it a big part of their broadcast they
cross the boundary from news to propaganda.

I still dsagree.  Call it propoganda if you wish.  To me this was a feature story.  News programs do this all the time.
