3 weeks ago I was diagnosed with fairly severe postpartum depression (PPD). My main symptoms were extreme anxiety, (including full-fledged panic attacks), insomnia and intrusive thoughts. After taking Lexapro for 2.5 weeks I am finally starting to function. I had to stop breastfeeding as the anxiety was preventing my already low milk supply from "letting down" properly. A lactation consultant mentioned the hormonal changes caused by breastfeeding may contribute to the PPD (and to the physical stress it was placing on me), and it may be in my best interest to discontinue breastfeeding, which I did. I was hoping to try to resume breastfeeding (either with an oxytocin shot, or other method) once I began to feel better. However, I am scared to do so if it would contribute to the PPD and a return of the symptoms. I would greatly appreciate your opinion on this. Thank you so much to ABC news for doing this report. I knew nothing at all about PPD, and feel ALL mothers should be told it can be much more than just "feeling like crying all the time." I was truly horrified by the thoughts I had, and thought I was going insane. Best wishes
