hi i am 26yrs. old and have been diagnosed with bipolar 2 or so years ago and have been treated with meds ever since that work pretty well. my reason for writing is that 3 yrs ago i got pregnant by my husband now and had suffered such bad feelings that i aborted in the second month then was hospitalized in a mental hospital. im now considering getting pregnant agin but im also very scared. i have taken the steps of awareness with all of my docs this time around. i know how all of you are feeling and its the worse feeling anyone could imagine. during the whole process i was getting every test in the world done to see what was "wrong" with me. other then being diagnosed with bipolar of which i know i had since age 16 but never took meds....MY THYROID WAS OFF!! i ended up taking synthroid for a short period of time. my purpose for writing is a suggestion for you to suggest to the person who is struggling to get their thyroid checked. hope it is of some help please respond with any questions. i have been feeling great ever since so there is hope. i just dont know why meds work for this when everything has to do with hormones!? thanks

I pray you will have peaceful and wonderful pregnancy this time. You are right about the thyroid gland being so important. About nine months after my first son was born and breastfeeding was such a fiasco, I went to a doctor and he imediatly checked my thyroid and found I was very hypothyroid. A little pill I take every morning is all it takes for me to stay feeling good. When the need to change my dosage is apparnt to my husband or mother, I go to doctor to check it out, and get a new doseage level. My second pregancy was carefully moniterd for the thyroid and now that my baby is here, I feel great, happy, peaceful, and am bottlefeeding him.
