All of the women should have sued Imus immediately.   There was no need for Al Sharpton to get involved.  It was up to Imus, if he wanted to apologize.    People on this blog seem to have forgotten the attacks and grief these young women have endured after being called the slang for ####.  No one is interested in suing for being call nappy headed.  Race does not enter the picture for me.  But, Imus and no other person has the right to use the airways to call any woman a ####.  He slandered those women for sport.  I believe, if they were not black, people would not have missed the main point and reason he must be sued.

I don't quite understand why you speak of the troubles the Rutgers team suffered because of Imus's words. They would not likely be facing such problems if the comments made by Imus weren't blown out of proportion in the first place. It would all have long since been forgotten by now. I saw the situation as humorous. When Imus said those words, I was immediately reminded of the times I've heard White cast members or guests on predominantly Black sitcoms using "ebonics" occasionally. That was the joke: the fact that someone White was using Black language. That was the impression I got from that whole "nappy headed ####" thing. I didn't think it was that serious, especially not in today's culture. Most of the troubles experienced today by the Rutger's ladies is probably backlash from people who are justifiably angered by the firing of Imus. I don't know of anyone who'd actually think of these women as hoes because of Imus calling them that, so there wasn't anything slanderous about his words. Further, his words weren't any more "sexist" that those of the millions of women all over this country who casually call men "dogs" and don't face any consequences.

If someone called me that in the media (radio, TV, Newspaper,etc), I would be extremely angry.   I don't care about the color of the person, it is not funny.   I don't care about nappy headed.   A man cannot call a woman a wh### in the media and expect her to laugh and just accept it.

Imus cannot hide behind other people who say vulgar and inapporiate things.   There has been and always will be people in this society who will disrespect themselves and others.    There are also people with class and high standards of all races who are outraged that Imus would go on the radio and call women wh####.       

I don't see why it is so justified in your mind, for people to threaten and harrass innocent women for standing up to defend themselves from a character attack by Imus.
