If you look at Britain and Australia, it's clear that fewer guns in society means fewer deaths. The per capita deaths from guns is far, far lower in those countries than it is in the USA.

The per-capita incidence of all types of murder is lower in Britain and Australia, largely due to cultural differences. Neither of those countries has the kind of gang problems that the US has, nor the 'War on Drugs'.

well since austrailia has made tighter bans on guns, their crime rates go up. the more restrictions you place in your country, especially the u.s., the more people who will break it. it is the same idea as say alcohal. in the u.s., you can't drink until you are 21 in most states. well, more people get drunk when they turn 21 because it is a big deal to say you can drink. there are also more underage drinkers because they wanna look 'cool'. but in europe, where there is no drinking age, it is not a big deal since anyone can drink. so they have less of a problem. if you say to someone, do NOT look behind you, they automatically want to look behind them...because they are told they can't.

Alcohol can be an ADDICTION -that's why people tend to break the law/prohibition and get it. Besides, alcohol is not a weapon. You can't kill anybody (maybe just yourself) with a bottle of vodka:))))) The fact that kids/minors drink alcohol b/c it's restricted and they wanna feel cool HAS ZERO to do with people's professed reasons for buying guns. After all, their favourite excuse is they need guns for protection. Are you trying to say people want to own a gun JUST BECAUSE they wanna feel cool? It's exactly what your comparison to alcohol implies. It's SCARY. It suggests ADULTS act like kids, want to break the law and are IRRESPONSIBLE.

It also means more innocent victims of crime; like rapes, robberies, carjackings, etc... Be honest...if some thug is breaking down your door to have his way with you, and then take your life. And you've got a pistol and a cell phone with 911 on speed dial, sitting on the nightstand, next to your bed. Which one would you pick up first? Zulu

Why do people always want to point to a nation that our founding fathers fought to be free of as an example of how to govern? If you want to make any sense, compare state to state statistics. Answer me why D.C. who has, until recently had the most strict of firearm laws, ranks number 1 for firearm homicides: http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000 While Texas, who has pretty liberal laws for weapons is ranked 26: http://www.statemaster.com/graph/cri_mur_wit_fir-death-rate-per-100-000 Just above Michigan who laws are more stringent: http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/f/gunlaw_tx.htm And below Maryland who has the mandatory 7 day waiting period?: http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/f/gunlaw_md.htm You see I admit that firearm deaths are lower in Britain as well as austrailia, however their overall crime is not lower.

Absolutely right, but the gun extremists don't care about that. All they're interested in is their paranoid fear that murderous criminals (and usually in their racist minds they are BLACK criminals) are gathering in the dozens outside their houses, preparing to rape and kill and pillage, and only their gun collections are keeping the barbarians away. Meanwhile, the facts show that homes with guns are more likely to experience violence done by THOSE VERY GUNS. It is a perverse and paranoid worldview. Many of these same people are the ones who buy the Left Behind books, where the Secretary General of the UN is the AntiChrist. Scary, scary folks.

If you look at Britain and Australia, it's clear that fewer guns in society means fewer deaths. Check with my hometown that has a total ban on the private ownership of firearms. Washington DC led the country for years with the number of people killed. Remember that this is a no gun city.

Are you going to ban other weapons like you are wanting to ban guns because you just don't kill people with guns. There are other weapons out there.

The one thing I don't think people who want to ban guns gets is this: The second ammendment doesn't establish the right to bear arms, it simply says that it is a pre-existing right that will not be infringed upon. Therefore it is my God given right to have a weapon to defend myself and my country with. You can say we have the police for that, but you cannot infringe on my right to defend myself instead of counting on the police (which is a death sentence).

I am sorry,  it is not the guns that shoot people, it is people who decide to make that wrong decision & shoot another human being. Just because they have a gun doesn't mean they are going to shoot another human being. My family & I may be the exception to the rule, my grandfather was a gun dealer ever since I could remember(he's passed now) & we have been brought up around guns our whole lives & so have my children they are 21 & 18  and they each own their own guns. NO one in my whole family has ever shot another human being.

The number of deaths due to guns killings is directly related to the internal societal debauchery.
One can not compare one society to another.  That's rediculous.  We need to really inspect our own culture
and from where I stand, we can pass another million of laws pertaining to guns in the U.S. but they'd be useless.
Sadly, the proliferation of guns has become out of control and while I type this, another million arms are being produced daily.  I don't know about anyone else out there, but I can see this problem growing on a daily basis.
Paranoia in our soceity is growing by leaps and bounds, whether derived from terrorism or pathalogical disease.
In my opinion, the combination of this and guns is the deadly formula.

Look at the Swiss.
The Men are issued full automatic rifles and ammunition that they keep at home,Granted they are required to be in their Countries Military but you dont read about mass killings there and they have the fire power to kill alot.

Bob loves Gun Control, He wishes no one had a Gun,That way when He comes for your young daughters you will not be able to do anything as He will have a Gun and would have cut your phone lines so you cant call the Police. But it wouldn't matter as the damage would have been done before they got there anyway.
(Just a scenario) I for one will defend my family to the best of my abilities. How will you defend yours?
