You know, whenever I listen to the NRA screech about gun rights, I'm reminded of those old cartoons called the Looney Tunes. I mean, you couldn't get a more animated, reactionary group of people anywhere in the world than this lot. When will they realize that the easy availability of guns is destroying innocent lives?

I don't think we really have lots to go on.. .. I seem to find the "cold dead hands" of Charleton Heston worthless this day.. .. But would ask about the policing structure around things "gunny".. Like as whats-what in the NRA poachers basket.. .. Or high powered machine guns for nothing more than a Collection..but needing a License.. .. The last media gamble of the NRA did seem "smelly"..by standards of a crowded house.. The NRA might just wish to have more/kinda' like Clinton's "is" stratagy..you should always be prepared to explain your High Powered Lifestyle.

Well you've got a lot of people to convince. According to a Zogby poll on 4-17-07 only 16& of the people believed that stricter gun laws would have prevented the VT tragedy.

Tell me, just when and how do you listen to the NRA "screech about gun rights"? My guess is that you listen to people who tell you what they think the NRA position is.

why do liberals hate this civil right so much

if you want to rape the constitution let me note that the percentages of legal gun owners committing a felony are less than one percent.  Why do people want to punish the 99% who don't  cause crime.  There are other groups that are far more likely  to commit crime than lawful gun owners yet no one suggests say punishing all black males between 15-35 would be legitimate even though the rate of criminal activity in that group is far far far higher than legal gun owners

my guess is that you spend far more time listening to your friends screech about what they think the NRA position is.

I'm guessing from your webname that you're a female?   So let me ask you a reasonable question if I may.  You're sitting home watching tv with your kids and you experience a break-in....what are you going to do??   Call 911 and wait??    Can you afford to wait as long as it will take for a response?   Do you have "something" to excercise your God given right to self-defense with?   Are you aware that law enforcement doesn't even have a duty to respond to your emergency?  Are you aware that firearms are used approximately two million times a year to prevent a criminal act?  Are you aware that of these times that the simple brandishment of a firearm solves the situation with nobody getting hurt??   Are you aware that concealed carry permit-holders  commit less crime than policemen do??    If you can answer these questions honestly and still be confident that your government will protect you then I suppose it won't do any good to ask you  to do some research before hating firearms!   All I can say is "good luck"...I presume you have fire insurance but you probably wouldn't do without it and you really don't "think" you're going to have a fire do you??   I, on the other hand, have never had to use my fire insurance but I have used a firearm to protect myself once, with no injuries.   I'll keep  supporting the second amendment  because I work with law enforcement every day and I personally see what happens "out there".

the key error phrase you use is "easy availability" pertaining to firearms [guns is too broad a term and is used by people who don't own firearms].
there is certainly not an easy availability to obtaining firearms.
a person needs to be fingerprinted by the FBI, background checked by the Federal agency and also possibly a state agency, fill out a Federal Form 4473 which asks many questions a person must not lie about or they are committing a crime in the process.
Present a few forms of proper ID, one of which is a photo ID with correct current address issued by the resident state agency.
you obviously have never entered a store that sells firearms and asked what is involved to purchase one. oh, there are age requirements for handgun purchases: minimum age 21. rifles age 18.

I think you should reconsider ever brandishing your firearm. that action is a felony.
the carrying of a firearm for self defense does not allow brandishing "to scare off' possible threats.
either you are threatened with deadly force or you are not. until you are, don't think about your firearm.

Completely agree with you Marjorie... I'm not one for abolishing the 2nd Amendment or taking guns away from the average citizen.  I am one for having more stringent qualifications to own one.  It's simple... if you qualify, you can own one.

CLEARLY, Cho obtained his guns legally, and without question... proving only that our qualification requirements to drive a car and have an automobile license are even more stringent than it is to own a gun.  It's rediculous.

Until we're willing to enact nationwide FEDERAL laws about gun ownership qualifications and requirements, and stop leaving those laws to the individual states, then... America needs to just start accepting these horrendous school massacres as just part of the American way of life... "As American As Apple Pie".

When was the last time you bought a Gun from a Honest Dealer?
I bet He didn't just hand it to you,I bet He called the Mics and did a background check.
Sure it's fairly easy to buy a Gun if you don't have a Police Record and why not?
The problem lies in the fact that there are People running around that should not have Guns but to ban everyone from owning them is not the answer. As a matter of fact since the Concealed carry laws went into effect violent crime dropped in most places and the Blood in the streets People claimed would happen never did.
I hear the call for more Gun Laws but why bother? They don't enforce the ones we have now.
The Courts have pretty much made this Country a Hunting Ground for the Criminals that don't give a hoot about any Law let alone Gun Laws.
What needs to be done is enforce the Laws we have now and stop babying the Criminals.

What do the Swiss know that We dont?
Every Adult Male Home Owner is issued a Fully Automatic Rifle and Ammunition and are required to be in the Countries Military. The Gun is Kept at Home and their Crime rate is pretty low.

you say that the easy availability of guns is the problem... funny how about the fact of people getting killed by firearms in countries where guns are completely outlawed? ever wonder why the world health organization consistantly lists the safest public cities as those with the least restrictive of firearms?

funny i havent heard of one of these in states such as louisiana and texas 2 of the more lax states in firearm purchasing...perhaps it is the parking lot full of vehicles with firearms publically displayed there that is discouraging the actions?

in louisiana you not only can concealed carry.. you do not need a permit to publically carry.. ( aka old wild west die down holsters) you simply have to legally own the firearm.

the W.H.O. World Health Organization even did a study to this effect... funny as they found that the more firearms on the streets of a country the safer it's citizenry actually was...
