I am posting this and then I'm logging out of here. Mainly because I know that mindset in this country as of late has no respect for any minorities...black, Asian, native American, gay, lesbian, transgendered, Hispanic, or ANY minority person knows EXACTLY what I mean and LIVES this intolerance DAILY!!!! I just saw the results of the poll skyrocket to over 8K people saying Don Imus should have kept his job! What the HELL is wrong with you people?! This hate-monger got exactly what he deserved! There are over 19 documented times that this washed up fool has used racially/sexually oriented slurs on his radio program. Quite honestly, he didn't get enough punishment! He should be brought up on slander/libel charges! Of course I guess most of the heterosexual white men that voted that he should have kept his job are also supporters of what he has been spouting over the years. So, it's not surprising in the least! I believe in forgiveness just like the next person but, I also believe some people are NOT redeemable and Don Imus falls into the later category. He has proven this by calling those fine young women what he did, by calling gay people and transgendered people freaks, insulting the mentally and physically retarded and many other rude things he's said over the years. I say, this is a fantastic first step in clearing our airwaves of this particular brand of hate speech. I say Michael Savage ought to be next! Then, following in succession based on the severity of their hate speech: Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly (have I left any out folks?). And before anyone jumps on the First Amendment bandwagon: I thoroughly believe in the First Amendment...there is a freaking difference between political satire and full blown hate speech, people...give me a break! It's a far cry from South Park, CO to degrading minorities on supposed "serious" talk shows. Those of you who think this crusty old fart should have kept his talk show have lost what was left of your collective minds and that saddens me. Free speech IS important...but, HATE SPEECH is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG and has to be cleansed from the airwaves!

This is too funny, GROW A BACKBONE!!! (Oh, by the way, you forgot Oprah, majority of black rappers/comedians, etc. that are making racial slurs against white people, hispanics-I'm a hispanic woman, asians, and all other races/ethnic groups, who cares about others' opinions?) I don't care about the jokes being made asking how many spics can you fit into a car/landscaping jokes.. SO WHAT??? What others say about me isn't going to affect how I live my life, I'm not going to walk around on tiptoes, afraid to state my opinion, why should anyone be afraid?

Good for you! I'm tired of the black people aways pointing fingers at all other races! The blacks are no different...they act like they are innocent of any racial comments or critisims. Only thing is they have the biggest mouth when something is said in truth or in jest...and use the race card. Well, white, hispanic and other races can also use a "card" but we don't. Backbone - is right!!

Wow, so dramatic, look at the real problem. It's called racism and it exists in all races. Especially blacks hating whites you just demonstrated that in your "eh hem" speach. I listen to black radio every morning and they usually make fun of white and asians. this is on most mornings that something like that is said. Maybe you should fight racism instead of whites, maybe then your speaches would hit harder to someones heart. Because what you said doesn't help it just pours more hate into the circus that we are seeing now.

FYI...I AM A WHITE MALE!!!!! I JUST HAPPEN TO BE GAY AS WELL! So, by my referring to white males, I was NOT making a racial slur. And this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about...allowing jokes about minorities to be funny?!!!! Didn't I address the idea of political satire as opposed to spewing hate speech that has been shown to increase acts of violence against minorities? WHEN YOU DEGRADE ONE MINORITY YOU DEGRADE THEM ALL!!!!!! DON'T ANY OF YOU PEOPLE GET THAT? I THINK THIS FORUM HAS COLLECTIVELY LOST IT'S MIND!

Use the word collectively again and I'm gonna have to bow down to you..Brainiac. I bet your friends find it extremely hard to engage in conversation with you. I can read that your very intelligent, but either hurt or angry. Loosen up man your starting to worry me! By the way, you are right and I do agree with you.

You're damned right I'm ANGRY! Why shouldn't I be when most every day I hear rude people using the word "gay" to imply something is lame or weak (neither of which am I, I can assure you of that)?! I'm sick and f'ing tired of this crap! People like Imus are allowed to run freely across my TV and Radio spouting hate that degrades everyone. To take some reclining pose and say, "Oh, they don't mean it, they are just uneducated, they are ignorant of the fact that words do damage, I'm just gonna sit back and relax..." would be foolish of me. No, it's HIGH TIME I and those who feel the way I do stand up and fight this. Because we DID gloss over it in years and decades past and now we have an entire media genre that has made a market for itself in ridiculing, embarrassing and taunting people. That says alot about our great country...AND HOW SAD IT'S GOTTEN. Thanks for you post though. You seem nice in a way and I appreciate the ideas. I actually have great conversations with friends...and afterward, we still remain friends...:) Thanks again...and thanks for being real.

It goes without saying anytime you speak someone will be offended. People seem to look for something to sink their teeth into. Example the word "gay" it used to be a perfectly good word.

Give me a break! Slippery slope indeed. You obviously think it's okay to attack minorities and degrade all kinds of people. Well, I recently went to a gun show (yes, I enjoy competitive shooting and guns...but, I can't cast my life and my vote based on one issue only like so many people in this country) and the friend I was with hit the roof when he saw a booth devoted to the Neo Nazi movement. Yes, they were there promoting their hateful beliefs but, they DON'T HAVE A NATIONAL FORUM SUCH AS A TALK SHOW TO INFECT THE MASSES WITH THEIR HATE! Plus, I talked to them and they seemed far more coherent and willing to talk to a gay man than most people posting on this site seem to be! We actually had a very intelligent exchange of ideas! See I think it's okay to have idea exchange...I just don't think it's okay for people in the public eye to set bad examples for the youth in our country and subliminally tell them that it's okay to hate and possibly even enact violence against minorities or anyone that doesn't agree with them. I'm not saying we take away the First Amendment you buffoon, I'm saying that common sense and a little sensitivity to others goes a long way in making this world a better place.

That's the problem! IT'S ON EVERY STATION IN THIS COUNTRY! IT'S SICKENING! YOU DON'T HEAR THIS CRAP ON THE BBC! ISN'T IT SAD WE HAVE TO GO OUTSIDE OUR OWN COUNTRY TO HEAR THE VOICE OF REASON INSTEAD OF RACISM AND PROPAGANDA? WE SHOULD REALLY BE OUTRAGED ABOUT THIS!

The rap music broadcast on free radio is ok though right? Lots of healthy learning to be had from that stuff. I could think of maybe one or two other things to be outraged over? Signed a short jewish guy who has been persecuted his whole life, and still manages to wake up with a smile everyday.

Then I suggest they put a stop to all the rappers with their nasty filty music they produce about their own race of women. The music is worse than Imus's comment. How do you feel about Sharpton and Jackson getting three young WHITE male guys arrested for a rape they did not commit? Will the apologize? I am one who does not think he should have been fired and I am a white female.

That's a good point. Sharpton is just as tainted as the rest. I agree with you on that point. But, I think it's high time these tainted talk show hosts be removed from the air to make way for really balanced and impartial personalities. Your post is by far the most intelligent one I've read in response to mine so far...thank you.

Glad you agree with this, not only did he falsely accuse, but to this day he will not apologize or recant these accusations to the people involved with this case, check out his statements to the press during his so called attempted Presidential campaign. This is a supposed man of "God" that has repeatedly refused to acknowledge forgiveness for many, however, for some reason, he always expects it for his mistakes, actually, he refuses to admit they were mistakes or that he may have been wrong, he's far to arrogant to let that happen. This goes way beyond Imus, what he said was wrong, no question about it, until everyone is held to the same acountability though I can not agree with his firing. When CBS and the other companies involved refuse to have anything to do with the "music" that is sold today that is much more hateful to all races, genders, creeds, and even the jobs they hold (cops and firemen for example!) or the reverse discrimination that goes on by the likes of Sharpton and Jackson I may reconsider my opinion, but not before.

Here's the problem - we're all human - there is no such thing as impartiality. We all have biases and prejudices based on our experiences - and all of our experiences are different. No matter what happehs, there will always be someone/something that offends our own sensibilities. We all have choices - and the choice to make in this type of situation is to change the channel. By brewing up this huge media storm, all that has been accomplished is that his comment has now reached a larger audience - some who will agree with it and some who will be offended by it. I personally think that this country has bigger things to worry about than nasty name calling - I'm wondering why the healthcare crisis doesn't draw out this many people??
