How come I haven't heard anything about Hurricane Wilma? I live in Broward county florida, and I am still without electricity as is about 50% of the tri-county area! I had to go back to work today and it is my first look at the internet. Here it has been mostly damage coverage. The schools have been out for over a week and they may go back this thursday. Robin was on this am showing how they are giving Halloween to all the kids in Pass Christian and God Bless all who have helped those poor families what a Great Idea! Unfortunately we will not have Halloween this year! We haven't any lights on most roads and 50% of the homes we are under curfew 11pm until 6am. Please don't forget us!

Seat, Isn't it strange geting back on the internet after being without power for a while? Last year after a storm I was without power for a period of time, and when I finally got back online it was strange to see that internet life had gone on without me! Glad things are slowly returning to normal... getting back to work is a good step. No lights and now dark earlier :-( do be careful!

No lights could be perfect for Halloween, WCNS, now if only someone would realize the kids are missing a much loved holiday.. maybe they can have some type of holiday to help return to normalacy.

We hear about Florida and Wilma almost daily. About every other day they show the lines and debris and give the latest information they have as an up-date. I admit that Florida isn't getting the coverage NOLA got, but remember a lot of areas hit by Rita and Katrina didn't get the coverage NOLA got either. So I can take from that that you people must be dealing with the aftermath fairly well. It is a shame the kids and to tell the truth I never thought about it much. If I would have been reminded of that a few days ago a web page could have been made about it and perhaps some group or wealthy soul would have taken notice and brought Halloween to the area - at least in part.

Thank you so much for your information being without electric for a week is a new experience for me I have been here for 20 years and this is the first time a Hurricane knocked out 98% of Florida Power and Light During Andrew I lost power for 20 hours and after Katrina we lost power for 30 hours it is now 1 week and we are all begining to appreciate the simple things in life like a hot bath. My son is out today volunteering and giving out Ice and Water since schools are still closed! Thank you again for your nice thoughts and we are lucky that we weren't totally wiped out although some people are.

Well I went to the M&Ms and Mars sites and went to the "Contact Us" place for their complaints and such... I told them it was just brought to my attention about the 3 counties in Florida not having Halloween and I thought it was a shame these kids had to miss one of their favorite times of the year because of the Hurricane. I don't really expect anything to come of it, but I figured what's the harm in trying. It would be nice to see some candy company decide they can bring a little bit of Hallowween to these areas hit by the hurricanes. I mean what is the real cost to them to come down and give out some candy and such, they'll write it off to a business expense anyway and maybe as a donation as well. Not to mention the increase sales by those hearing about it and thinking "What nice guys they are!". They probably have orders for those areas anyway and see that as a loss, so what's the harm in sending some of that candy into these areas anyway. I know Halloween don't mean much to alot of people, but to bring these kids a little bit of Halloween when they expect it to be gone for the year woul please the kids and the parents.. and maybe that would help a little with trying to return a little normalacy to the area. One really doesn't know real loss until they lose the things they are used to. I know that it's one thing to intellectually think that if one lost their TV, Stereos, Electric Lights, Refrigerators, etc. that they would be hard pressed but to actually lose it for a long time really drives the point home. I've worked in the Civil Engineer business a long time and I know of no perfect way to compensate for this. Putting stuff above ground has drawbacks we all know, or should be able to imagine, but putting them all below ground has drawbacks too.

Looks like both Broward and Palm beach are only 50% restored, I hope your power comes back on soon. I live in Collier and most is restored! There was a great write up in our local sunday paper on Hurricane Wilma, most news coverage I have missed because I have been outside cleaning up branches and pine cones. Hang in there, things WILL get back to normal!

I can honestly say that here in Wisconsin we all feel for all of you who are down on the Gulf Coast area. In the wake of all 21 Hurricanes this year, I think that it gives us a reminder as to how vulnerable we really are. Our country's Government is not being as much of a help as it could be. I understand that there are crisis going on in other coutries but as I said once before we need to worry about us first. I here in Wisconsin am watching the news for any new developments. Watching the progress, and quite frankly when it comes to the progress part, it sickens me. To think that our Government is more worried about an Earthquake in Pakistan or Hurricanes Alpha and Beta that is neglects our own. Here our country is in a time of Crisis and yet the main thing we are hearing about now is Avian Flu. That isn't really a major threat right now but it could add more devistation to our country. But before that can happen the virus needs to mutate so it can be tranmitted from people to people. Let's worry about us for a change and quit getting involved in other Countries business. We have to clean our own backyard before we try cleaning anyone elses.

I do actually agree with taking care of our problems before helping others. If we would take care of our unemployment problems, our reconstruction efforts, our helping our cities to grow strong again, and all that then we can do so much more for the rest of the world.
