The incredible penetration of iPhone apps is foretelling the demise of the wire line world. Soon (very soon), startups will issue all new employees an iPhone or similar smart phone and tell them that this is their primary access device. Use it as your main phone line, tether it to your laptop for internet access, etc. Four digit dialing and call transfer will be available via an application. 911 will locate you via GPS.

Telecom costs will be cut in half compared to a traditional desktop and wireless phone employee. You will need a telecom management platform, but those are available now. Why would you need a wire line connection at all?
