I have never ever reinstalled an OS. Starting with Win 3.1. Why you find the need to is beyond me.

Most operating systems for PCs collect bad habits like a pool hall dandy. That's why you need to reinstall every once in a while. Having a good anti virus program and a spyware program is good too. Cleaning out cookies is also a good.

granted, but have never need to do so. Faults appearing in the system have been fixed in different fashions, but never by an OS reinstall (Ugh!!!)

nope, I do a lot of video editing, n othing as large as yours, photo editing, video conferencing and stuff, presentations, HP building and editing, but haven't found the need to do an OS re-install as yet. Guess I am lucky.

I did it two or three times in my old job. Not so much did it but let the IT guys or instrument engineers do it. I would say that in that job I worked with at least 30-35 different computers over 9 years, many of which were connected to various instruments (mass spectrometers mainly). Part of the reason why I used so many is the instruments I worked with switched from UNIX to Windows during that time. Plus I went thru several generation of mass specs as well as computers during that time. We would really only do it as a last resort to solve problems for which nothing else worked, and usually when we did it, the thinking was "well, we've tried everyrhing else so maybe this will fix it". In fact I think most times it did.

I have seen folks do reinstalls, probably most not needed, but generally as a last resort. If one wants to have a lot of fun getting everything to run right, then go ahead and do it....LOL. However, if it becomes a biannual or monthly thing, something else is wrong I would surmise.

I basically don't have this problem. Friends with a mac also have their share of troubles however. Part of the beast I imagine
