I was a lonely stay-at-home mother of 3 very young children in the early '80's, new to North America and had very few friends due to the frequent moves our family had to make. The World News Tonight and Peter Jennings was at least one of the few constants in my lonely life during those early years, and it quickly became the window to the world that I had left behind. The program made me feel that my world had not shrunk as much as it truly did. I could not afford to subscribe to newspapers, didn't have cable, but could at least pick up the local ABC station and each night I felt like I was still part of the world out there. I enjoyed the other anchors, but somehow Peter Jennings was my favourite. He spoke to us as if he was interested in telling us something that he felt was important for us to know. Somehow he came across as if speaking to us directly, and not just to the anonymous public out there. Thank you Peter, and thank you to all the staff at ABC that made his program happen. Celia
