United Parcel Service is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. For the majority of that time the employees have been represented by the Teamsters union. As the contract between UPS and Teamsters comes to an end, a movement of employees have formed a new union to replace the Teamsters as the bargaining agent. The Association of Parcel Workers of America (APWA) is enjoying strong support across the country as evident with its election petitions they have submitted to the National Labor Relations Board. Petitions have been filed in Kansas City, South Carolina, and most recently Pittsburgh with more likely to follow. If employees of the country's largest shipping company have lost faith in the Teamsters, who is next? Has the International Brotherhood of Teamsters fulfilled its purpose in labor history?
