I wish you would have a show on Klinefleter's Syndrome. My son has been ignored and pushed aside all his life. Now, to my dismap, he is getting negative attention.  My 26 year old son, Kevin, has a chromosome difference, XXYY.  The CSI show was very hurtful to me. In the past you have shown children with obnormalities coping with life. I think you should consider showing a show on the Klinefelter boy.  This week's episode of CSI: Miami portrays a serial killer as a bearer of the "criminal gene," an extra Y chromosome. This portrayal is completely unfounded and prejudicial. Sex Chromosome Aneuploidy--variations in the number of X and Y chromosomes in males and females--is NOT associated with criminal behavior. The portrayal appears to be based on outdated, unscientific information, and it is SEVERELY harmful to a population of individuals who already face far too many challenges and prejudices. Promotion for tonight’s episode is particularly destructive. The fictionalized account of a killer branding his victims with a "Y" signifying his chromosomal variation, inflames paranoia where understanding should be fostered. Visit the websites of the XXYY Project, a leading authority on sex chromosome variation, and examine the research conducted by Dr. Randi Hagerman, of the UC Davis Mind Institute, and Dr. Nicole Tartaglia, of the Mind Institute and now Children’s Hospital in Denver. http://www.xxyysyndrome.org/ Resources: http://www.xxyysyndrome.org/professionals.html http://www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/mindinstitute/ Before you do irreparable harm to a group of individuals who are no more likely to be violent criminals than anyone else, check your facts. I know I can’t stop CSI from airing the program, but I do request a thoughtful, special disclaimer—at the beginning and the end of the program—announcing that this fictionalized story IN NO WAY reflects the reality of sex chromosome variation.
