does anyone who does the news on ABC sound garrish and loud? It must be just me.

It's not just you. We're used to Peter Jennings' calm, even delivery. Many of today's announcers sound as if they're shouting at the cameras. It happens on radio and TV, and it's not just ABC. I used to work in broadcasting and it drove me nuts. I can understand it if a reporter is on the scene in a place where there's a lot of background noise. But there's no need for that in a studio. Also, a difference in timbre can make one person's voice sound louder than another person's. Charles Gibson has a good delivery, though.

Almost everyone sounds garrish and loud to me -I think it's because of the in-your-face approach these days. Peter Jennings voice was like a gentle refreshing breeze each night accompanied by the twinkle in eyes telling all of us just how he felt about each segment of the news he was reporting. I miss him terribly and continue to mourn him. On the other hand Diane Sawyer is barely audible-I guess that's supposed to be cute.

So many people have commented how the music that opens the program now grates on them. Same here; it used to be my announcement that Peter was coming, and now it announces that he won't be. No one else on the news has the sweetness of Peter's voice. I used to think his voice was angelic, and now when I hear him speak on videos, I know that I am, indeed, hearing the voice of an angel. The world seems a much more frightening place to me now. I always counted on Peter to be calm and reassuring and to make sense of world events for me. During Peter's illness, ABC News was a little surprised that their ratings did not drop, and actually seemed to improve. I would surmise that it was because we all ran home every evening to watch the news, hoping for some word from or about Peter. I know that my biggest frustration while I was on vacation was that we were not always in a position to watch WNT, and I didn't want to miss it if Peter should happen to do a bit of the news then. Now, if I watch WNT, okay, if I don't, that's okay, too. I am still a loyal ABC News viewer, but the news has lost its importance to me.
