I feel I must at least get one more message out since ths forum may end, maybe even tomorrow. Peter Jennings made us want to listen to the news. His charm was undeniable but sincere and drew us in and we were hooked and as a result we trusted him and to trust is a great gift. We knew he wasn't faking it; he wanted the truth out and probably occasionally had to fight to get it out right! I admired his humor, his intelligence, his generosity and his ability to lead when there are so few capable leaders. I want to say, perhaps for the last time in this forum that I loved you so much Peter! You were the real deal and every time I look at a picture of you I dwell on it and I wonder if you know how much so many cared for you, loved you deeply.

One of the things that has helped me get through my sorrow over losing Peter, and my guilt at not appreciating him enough while he was alive is the knowledge that he DID know very much he was loved by so many people, though he didn't find out until after his cancer was publicly known. It's one of the ironies of his disease. If he had died suddenly of a heart attack (which can also be caused by smoking), or killed in a plane crash, he never would have learned the depth of our feelings for him. And we never would have been able to tell him. If you still feel like talking about Peter after this forum is closed, I have created a Yahoo group for him. It's called Peter's Place and is located at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/peters_place/

I haven't posted here yet.. so I wanted to take a moment to say how much I will miss him. I, like many other kids, grew up with him.. He has always been there in the background of my life for as long as I can remember. Everyday I looked forward to the news... and I think even at a young age he made me interested in the news. I think it was his compassion and grace. Life sure is gonna be different without him! He's been the one i've turned to in crisis.. like Sept 11. I think I watched him that period of time. What a great friend he was.. though I never had the honor of knowing him. Angelique, TX

I think a lot of us have been trying to capture just what it was that made Peter Jennings the incredible person he was. One thought I had was that it seemed to me as if he REALLY cared about people and their various life situations. This unusual caring for others reflected in his reporting-it made the stories all that much more powerful. I think that a lot of media people just don't seem to care-they do their report and go on to the next story. Peter Jennings cared. He looked at troubled spots closely and in doing so, engaged others to care too. Often, when I am out and about these days, I try to remember to care a little bit more the way Peter might have.

Thanks ABC for providing such a forum for us to share our thought about Peter. Please keep this board open for a little longer time, at least to the time of the public memorial service.

My sincere thanks to ABC for giving us access to the message board for this long to express our thoughts and condolences on PJ's passing. I'm requesting that the message board be kept open until at least after the public memorial service for Peter. Thanks again, and God bless!
