We all recognize the horror of Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing hardships on citizens of New Orleans. Unfortunately, now it has been determined that citizens can sue the Army Corps of Engineers for the failure of the levees which broke and flooded that city.

While many may see this as justice, it occurs to me that we should note that suing the government means we are suing ourselves.  So many of us will see this particular suit as justified, and it may, in fact, be justified, however, who is responsible for not providing budget money to be allocated to the shoring up of the levees?

Do we really want to go down this road?  This could cost each and every one of us huge amounts of money to add to the already huge debt we are facing by the bailout of banks, etc.

I think we need to step back and remember who pays for these types of suits.  The lawyers will get richer and all citizens of the USA will be billed.
