I saw on Charlie Gibson's first night anchoring the news that the Marine Sergeant recruiter featured in the indie movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" was recently killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. I would like to send this Marine's family and Corps family my sympathies, hugs, prayers and tears for their tragic loss. Our family has a soldier stationed there now, and he states that he feels safe, knowing the Marines are guarding his base. It is bombed daily. I wish there was some way I could convey to this fine Marine's grieving family how much this US citizen thanks him for his ultimate sacrifice. Every death recounted in the news brings a moment of sorrow and prayer for another life given in the pursuit of democracy and freedom. I realize the current war is a political hotbed at this point in time, but I still feel a sense of loss for every life given, domestic and abroad, in defense of our homes, communities, country. If anyone knows the family or friends of the fallen Marine Sergeant, please share with them that a thankful citizen from North Carolina shares their sorrow and rejoices in the Sergeant's zest for life as a civilian and member of the Corps. God rest his soul. Semper fi.
