Not really. The murderous thugs in the Army of God who justify violence and murder through religion do not represent Christianity, or all Christians.
By the same token, the murderous thugs in Al Quada who justify violence and murder through religion do not represent Islam, or all Muslims.
In fact, throughout history, the Saudi Wahhabi sect of Islam murdered and persecuted other Muslims like the Sufi, simply because they were different.
Culturally, Judaism, Christianity and Islam are all cut from the same cloth and have their origins in that cave dwelling, stone throwing culture of the middle east.
There are many, many religions throughout the world. Some are peaceful and do not have a bloody, violent history. Unfortunately, the Judeo/Christian/Muslim culture does. We are evolving into a more peaceful society, as the notion of anyone being superior to anyone else is being debunked, and more and more, we are learning as a culture, to respect other people and other people's differences.
From my limited knowledge of Islam, it takes a scholar to declare a fatwa or jihad (war). So why are the false prophets of extremism being given the status of scholar as they declare Jihad? Bin Laden is not a learned scholar, neither is the Al Zawahiri or any of the Al Quada nuts who have declared jihad. None of them deserve the status of scholar and therefore, none of them have the authority to declare a fatwa.
What is needed now, are the real scholars to speak out - the ones who have studied Islam, and who know that it is supposed to be a religion of peace - not violence. What is needed is for these real and legitimate scholars to come out and speak out against jihad, if they truly care about their religion, and want to show the world that it doesn't represent murder and violence.
