MR. MCCORMACK: Like I said -- like I said before on this question, there's a thing called free speech in presidential campaigns in the United States. There's also a thing called the Executive Branch and we have responsibility for the foreign policy of the United States, and I don't think anybody's going to confuse those two things.

So is he trying to say that the candidates can promise anything without having any repercussions?

the reality of foreign policy is a far cry from the campaign trail. Makes sense to me.

sorry, but I can't agree less. The Constitution and the Supreme Court has usually been there to defend free speech issues. When was the last time your e-mail was censored, your phone calls monitored, your participation in demonstrations denied or abused, your right to view other news media throttled, your right to put on any bumper sticker you want withdrawn.

We have a freedom of speech that is not surpassed by many and never reached by most.
