Your statement harbors quitea few assumptions...namley,

1) You assume that this "war on terror" has a clear end point, a finite end in which one side can be defined as victor...sadly, that way in which the  goals of this "war on terror" are defined, it is inherently an un-winnable (and perhaps more importantly an un-losable) low intentsity conflict that will only serve to perpetuate itself through the creation of more terrorism.

 

2) You assume that dissent/protest/disagreement to the current status quo only serves to strengthen the posititon of "enemies" as if the polical/miliatry scales have a one-to-one relationship....like a school yard game of tug of war....rather a crude and simplistic conception of foreign policy

 

3) You a ssume that the current foreign policy, conducted by your president and his cabinet is legimate, sound and beyond meaningful reproach.....

 

4) You assume that helping your president is equal or at least comprable to "helping your country"...when in fact no such realtionship exists nor can be demonstrated....and there is equal plausibility that counteracting the current American foreign policy might also be a way (in the long run) of ultimately "helping your country"

Your correct  LOC.  And it begs the question how can the president be correct in his war of terror in Iraq when 71% of the population disagree with his policies?  Republicans must face the facts, the surge has failed, the waste of life must end. Our troops must leave the resolution of the civil war iraq to its people. 

The arguement to support the status quo is more of the same pumping billions into the neocon corporate sponsors at the cost of American lives.  If you really demand security then the goverment must change to reflect the will of the people and not that of the corporate sponsors.

It's time for people, not corporations, to manage govermetal policy. It;s time for change.

The fact is most of you have no concept of what this war is, so whether you are for it or against it is irrelevant to the war itself. "The war" all of it, Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Darfur, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Somalia, Austrailia, The United Kingdom, The United States, Canada, is a world war. It is being fought in just about every country of the world. Your enemy knows this, understands it completely, and they are winning. It is very likely, that they will prevail in the near future. Most people who like you and I who are the targets of this enemy have no desire to fully comprehend this war. The war is jihad, and we can not choose to stop it, or end it. We can not reach a negotiated settlement. Our enemy does not want diplomacy, our enemy only desires to prevail completely, and they are.

So given this dire picture how do we turn the tide? Education, fight the fear and ignorance. Demand the sparation of church and state completly. We need to understand their beleief is more than a religion, it is a scio-religious-plitical ideology that is incompatible with democratic fundamentals of freedom of religion, choice, and the pursuit if happiness. We must resist the urge to accomodate, and rather demand they integrate. In some cases this will mean actually fighting them when necesarry, but it is far more than soldiers on a battle field, it is a battle of idealogy.

Not until we begin to teach in our schools that we must fight jihad, can we begin to turn the tide, and begin to live in peace.

The war does have a definable end point, our survival desoite their resolute determination to kill us all.

Jihad must be defeated whever it presents itself. In a taxi stand in Detroit, or Dallas. At a Target store in Michigan. In Thailand where poor Lina Joy is not alllowed to legally wed her beloved becuase she is a convert from islam (not allowed), and he is a christian. *In Afghanistan where Adul Rahman and many others have converted to another beleif, and ABC News pretends it does not exist. We must fight this fight for our survival on every front, becuase our enemy will not accepot a negotiated peace. Our enemy only wants to kill us, or convert us, and so may are not even offered the option of conversion.

Very well put.  We indeed need to fight these terrorists wherever they are, and that includes the Philippine's, Afghanistan and Iraq...................and I think important to do something about Iran sooner than later or we may be too late to stop them!

But don't you see? george has united many sections of various terror groups and given them a single enemy - America.

George has done more to motivate and incentivise global terrorism than any other american in generations. We (the coalition) stomped into Iraq without the 1st clue what we were going to do with the counrty when the war was over and we ****** it up and the people of Iraq were (and still are) made to pay the price.

You have no idea who the damn enemy are let alone how to unite against them - Mulsim extremists are one section but they are in one form or another in every country on earth so unless you are planning to got to war with the entire world (which wouldn't surprise us in the slightest) then its a bit pointless.

By "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here" all you are doing is ensuring America will have generation upon generation of enemys to fight in the future ensuring your military budgets are maintained at a nice high levels for a longtime to come.

WAR is what America does best and to maintain this you need a constant supply of enemys to fight and george has done more to ensure this than any other US president for generations.

It's too late now. The time to fight the terrorists when they were actually gathered in one place was prior to 9/11. We had the excuse (USS COLE), we had a Congress that wouldn't obstruct the president (as was the case  with the Republican Congress obstructing Clinton), and we had a military that hadn't yet been emasculated by Rumsfeld.

 

Now it is too late. Al Qida now lives amongst us, has completely decentralized, and our military is ruined by the unnecessary quagmire in Iraq.
