My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Mr. Woodruff and Mr. Vogut. However, there are soldiers injured everyday that don't get this kind of play on the air. My local ABC station ran promos last night that began with "The insurgency has hit close to home". I find this incredibly offensive. My only brother is 21 and is in Balad, Iraq with the 4th ID. When he went to Iraq the insurgency hit close to home for me and my family. Yes, he signed up for the Army and is happy to be there helping to rebuild the country, but he doesn't enjoy the way the media protrays what he and other soldiers are doing. Again, I hope Mr. Woodruff and Mr. Vogut get better quickly, but for the media to go to Iraq and tell a story that does nothing but focus on the trouble our military is causing in Iraq and then want help from them when they need it is selfish. This is an incredibly unfortnate accident, but there are soldiers who are loosing their lives everyday and all the media does is treat them like a number. These soldiers are real people with real families and they experience real hurt and real sadness when they are there. Let's not forget who the real heros of this war are and let's not forget that there is more to the story of the war than what we see in the media.

Thanks for that post! I only wish there were more that would share their personal thoughts on this matter. Many of us have family and friends doing a job that for the most parts seems to get glossed over by the media. And ignored by the public, these people are doing a job that they are very proud of and are very hurt when all they hear is the negative comments on the airwaves. I feel bad for Bob and Doug but there are many others that have to deal with this type of situation on a daily basis. Thanks again

It beats my imagination to think that a person engages in a destructive behavior---shooting to kill, and then calls that a "job." The Creator must be very impressed.

Obviously we believe in two different creators. The God I believe in knows what the good fight is. Your liberal blathering is one of the reasons we have so many homeless and mentally ill Vietnam veterans. Our country abandonded them when they needed us most. It will not happen again! Soldiers and veterans are what has made this country great. Attack the people who defend your freedom all you want, but know that I have a big problem with my brother sticking his ass on the line for people like you. That being said...thank you for you opinion. Keep blathering because that is what he is fighting for!

I sympathize with you completly. My husband is in the army and is schedualed to go back to Iraq for the second time in July. I get so sick and tired of the media covering stupid stories. I remember when this war first started the first soldier who lost his life had their funeral aired on tv. Now the soldiers who have lost there life get maybe a picture and a name and about ten seconds worth of who that soldier was and its back to what celebrity is pregnant. For those soldiers who are injured they are lucky to even get announced. I know my brother in law had to go to the media himself when he was injured and we found ourselves with noooooo help from the military. Thank you for your post Lets continue to speak up for our soldiers who cannot.

Well lets just remember that if we had no military we would have no America. Those men and women who volunteer to serve this country allow you to have the right to say such ignorant comments. You must also remember that not all the soldiers want to be over there but believe me if you were thrown in the middle of Bahgdad in the middle of terrorists with nothing but a gun I am sure you would shoot to kill as well. Do not judge those who are fighting for your freedom.

I don't see it as an ignorant comment. Non violence has always been associated with God. And whether it's Osama Bin Laden or George Bush doing the killing, it offends God. Especially when the victims are innocent. Besides, those fighting the Americans in Iraq are not terrorists. They are called insurgents (98% of which are Iraquis) and they are protecting their own land against occupiers. Just like the Americans did against the British some 200 years ago. Remember that from history.

maybe if you payed attention to the comment I made you would understand what I was saying. Dont you know that I more than anybody understand that the Iraqi people want to defend their land. Do you think my husband is wanting to go to Iraq and fight. Hell NO! But because he signed his life away to defend this country he is forced to go to Iraq and fight to stay alive. I know that God is a God of peace. But lets be real we need a military to protect the freedoms that we do have. I dont believe in this war for a second but I am definatly not going to put blame on the soldiers for doing what they have to do.

I don't agree that we need the military to live in peace. It's a contradiction in and of itself. But if your e-mail is sincere, I could feel the pain in what you write. My heart, therefore, goes out to you and to all the mothers and wifes who are missing a loved one. In this world all we need are faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Hang on to it. Nothing can be more beautiful, especially in a time when we are trying to make sense of the inexplicable. Peace.

Nothing can be more beautiful, especially in a time when we are trying to make sense of the inexplicable. Peace. ****************** If that is all we had in 1941 the Jewish race would no longer exist on the European continent or quite possibly any where in the world. I cannot imagine this whole format on Bob and Doug was started as a political statement. Which many seem to base every conversation/argument on these boards. The need for a strong American military will exist as long as the world is filled with brutal people who have no care for anything other than their own personal gain. Of course if the Nazis had won WWII none of this would be happening as there would never have been an Isreal. Thanks to all of the American soldiers both past and present. And yes it is a job for many! Something to be proud of, they help far more than they hurt. Again all my best to Bob and Doug but also all of my best to all of our brothers and sisters in the military.

AS YOU TRILBY, I HAD A SON IN IRAQ 2 TIMES, BOSNIA AND AFGANASTAN. 17 YRS MARINE INFANTRY ALSO AN INSTRUSTOR. HE HAS A PASSION FOR THE OPRESSED PEOPLE THERE AND IS WILLING TO RISK IT ALL TO HELP IN ALL THAT HE CAN. EVEN THO I HURT I SUPPORT HIM 110% AND HE HATES THE NEWS MEDIA WHEN THEY SHOW STUFF "UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL" BEFORE THE FAMILYS ARE NOTIFIED. THE CO. THE UNIT AND THE PARENTS SITTING THERE WATCHING AND GUESSING THAT IT MAY WELL BE THEIR SON. THERE DOES NEED TO BE DESCRESSION.MY SON WHEN HE US STATE SIDE HAS ANOTHER JOB BESIDE INSTRUCTING. HE IS ONE OF THE GUYS THAT HAS TO GO TO THE DOOR OF THE HOME OF A FALLEN SOLDIER. GUESS WHERE HIS HEART IS? BOB AND DOUG GET UP FRONT NEWS BECAUSE THEY ARE THERE DOING THEIR JOB AND I BELIEVE THE NEWS DID A GREAT JOB TELLING US HOW WELL THEY WERE PROTECTED AND THE GREAT JOB THAT WAS DONE TO GET THEM THE HELP THEY NEEDED. DO YOU REALLY THINK OUR MEN AND WOMEN GET ANY LESS?? I DO NOT THINK SO AS MY DAUGHTER IS IN TURKEY U.S.A.F. WHERE SOME OF THE CHOPPERS ARE REPAIRED AND FLY OUT OF TO GET OUR OWN OUT AND TO THE SAFE PLACE TO BE "FIXED UP" IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COVER EACH PERSON AS BOB AND DOUG. OUR MINDS AND HEARTS WOULD NOT HANDLE IT. LETS ALL OF US HERE PUT DOWN OUR SWORDS AND SAY A FEW PRAYERS INSTEAD, ALANA

I think when we look at war we forget that the soldiers have hearts. They are trained to be tough and strong but they are people no less. My brother has told me that his favorite thing about being there is when they go out on patrol him and his soldiers give candy to the Iraqi children. He tells me that they are the real reason this is worth it. I think the care Mr Woodruff and Mr Vogt received is amazing. I know that all soldiers receive the same and it is truly the reason so many have lived through their injuries. My criticism about the media has many facets to it. I think they need to focus on the soldiers as people and not just numbers. I also think they need to showcase the amazing medical care in Iraq. I agree that putting down the swords is a good idea. What we need to do is put our energy into finding a way out that will not throw the Middle East into a civil war. I respect the choice my brother has made just as you do your childrens choices. It is painful to watch the news and I understand that. So, thank you for all of the good things your children have done. I'm not here to debate the war because as far as I'm concerned I don't care why we went to war, all I care about is my brother coming home safe and sound. I'm waiting to have my wedding until he gets back so I want him home soon so we can have a huge party to celebrate his return and my marriage. Thanks again for your son and daugther, it takes special people to put their lives on the line for strangers.

I believe that most Americans are aware of the sacrafices made by our military and their families. Do you realize that reporters are prevented from showing the injured soldiers of this war? We are not permitted to see the coffins of the dead. Our government does not want us to see what is really going on. That is what the reporters like Bob Woodruff are trying to do - bring it into our living rooms. And I hear plenty of stories about the good things - maybe you are listening and watching the wrong stations...

You couldn't be any further from the truth when you say our goverment doesn't want us to see the truth which is why journalists are not allowed to take and/or display pictures of our fallen heroes. How insensitve are you???? It is done out of RESPECT for those who so bravely serve this country!!! First and foremost I wouldn't want YOU or any other American seeing the coffin of my little brother should he lose his life while fighting in Iraq. How dare you think that it's YOU'RE right to see pictures of our soldiers who have fallen while in the line of duty. And if THAT is what Mr. Woddruff was over there to do, well let's put pictures on television sets across this country of his loved one's who have passed. Matter of fact, when one of your family members dies, why don't YOU send pictures of your dead loved one in a coffin to ALL the media outlets across this country for all of us to see. It probabaly wouldn't matter to you...The death of a loved one is very personal, tragic, emotionally charged, and very difficult..... now complicate that with that loved one being an 18, 19, 20, or even 30 year old son, daughter, sister, brother, father, or mother who volunteered to serve this country.... As humans we all have a difficult time saying goodbye, but saying good bye forever, is much more difficult ~ how dare you assume that you have the right to be involved in such a personal moment of these families who are saying goodbye to their loved one's who have lost their lives fighting a war.....shame on you. Lastsly, just because you're a tax payer, doesn't mean YOU OWN MY HUSBAND NOR MY BROTHER WHO SERVE THIS COUNTRY.... YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS TO ANYONE BUT YOURSELF ~ remember that.

I disagree with you. I don't believe most Americans realize what sacrifices soldiers are making. The reason I say this is because I didn't until my brother joined the Army. While he is in Iraq he will be working 7 days a week for at least a year, but more like 18 months. He gets 15 hours off every 4 days. When was the last time your worked those kind of hours while dodging IED's and RPG's no less? It's easy to say you understand but until you are in that situation you can't. Every time my phone rings I'm afraid it's my parents telling me something has happened to him. I have nightmares at least once a week about him dying or getting hurt in Iraq. I say at least 10 prayers a day for him and his unit. These are all stresses that affect my daily life that many people can't relate to. If I'm feeling this way I wonder how he is feeling. I actually knew our government doesn't allow pictures to be taken of coffins at Andrews Airforce Base when dead soldiers arrive. Personally I am grateful for this. If my brother were coming home like that I wouldn't want pictures of it. Let's honor these men and women while they are alive and then allow their families some privacy when their soldiers have passed on.

I disagree with you. I don't believe most Americans realize what sacrifices soldiers are making I disagree with that as well. Not even our president understands what those soldiers are going through. If he did he might have went about this war another way. I too was ignorant as to what exactly the soldiers sacrifice until I married my husband who is in the army. I feel so terrible that it took me being put in the situation for me to realize what these soldiers really do for us. Not only are they fighting this senseless war they are still having to keep peace around the world in places like Korea, Bosnia, Kosavo and many other places. They are also expected to be ready when a disaster strikes. I.E. the tsunami the hurricanes,9/11. They are more then just killing machines alot of them dont join the war in hopes to see action. Some join in hopes to bring peace. Lets not forget that.
