Oil has been tied to the Middle East for quite some time. The U.S. could break there dependency on forign oil by using Electric cars. At least untill hydrogen has the kinks worked out and in mass production.

I don't think consumerism is really in the War.. .. But there is an obvious MATERIALS advantage in its continuation.. I call it.."bake a pie"../.."eat a pie".. .. The world has come to a pivot on useful advantage.. .. I quess the use of the word:infra-structure might lead the way on NOT supporting Modernization..but lean more towards.."haggleing".. .. If you watch the "dirt fly" you'll notice that the language follows.. Sure the hole is deep when the dirt is FLYIN'.. its just that words used just fill shallow area's of the minds looking forward.

I agree. The supply of fossil fuels is limited. When China hits the market demanding fuel for its citizens, the demand will be even greater. It's just a matter of time before the price of oil skyrockets to over $100/barrel. The amount of money the U.S. is spending on the Iraq war can fund research into alternative/renewable fuels. With financial incentives to push industry in this direction, alternative fuels would become a reality within decades. Electric cars is the step in the right direction because of low emissions. However, it's still created by nuclear power. Fuel cell technology, solar, wind, geothermic, etc. can be researched for not only transportation, but to heat, cool and run the power to our homes and businesses. This should be a big step in the war on terror--cut the dependence on foreign oil.
