I have a 5 yr old grandaughter that diagnosed ASD when she was 3 yr old, she tippy toed constantly, her eyes were dull and would not potty train, swollen belly, she also must have had some trouble with her ears as she constantly pulled her earrings out at night, her memory capability is very high, her intelligence is high. She has a great love for flowers, animals, certain insects( lady bugs, dragon flies). My daughter put her on the GFCF diet, the results were amazing, she potty trained within weeks of intrducing the diet, her eyes sparkled, it seems as she came out of her fog. She stayed on this diet for quite some time, as she showed great improvement her parents started introducing the wheat and dairy products back into her diet, as the cost of this diet is very high, I assume. She did well for awhile, in the last couple months she has started tippy toeing again, her belly is bloated again, day dreams at school, she is in regular Kindergarten, doesn't always respond when you talk to her, and has a problem with bed wetting at night. My daughter wants to put her back on the GFCF diet, my heart is breaking for my baby, she loves ice cream, chicken nuggets, garlic bread, doesn't care for milk at all. They do not eat pork or beef by choice. My daughter gives her acidophilus daily, limits her sugar intake.
My question is, is there anything we can do without taking away the things she loves so much?
