To Whom it May Concern,
I am hoping you can help me.  I am trying to get information on the ATRX abnormality in females.  My daughter is 7 yrs 5 months old.  She has had learning delays her whole life.  After years of testing and evaluations it has been determined that she has this abnormality.  I received the information this afternoon by a representative of the Genetics Department of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia via a phone conversation after they received the latest blood test results.   The representative was unable to give me a lot of information because they are unfamiliar with this occurance in females.  I have started preliminary Internet research on the subject hoping to find some answers.  So far I have found very little.  I would greatly appreciate any information you can provide about the condition.   I am continuing my research to the best of my ability and will be getting further blood testing for my daughter and myself through Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.  I hope someone is able to help.  I desperately want to know as much as I can so that I can care for my child through the best available means.

Hi bandjwood4 and thank you for your question. Here is an answer to your question from Marshall L. Summar, M.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Physiology & Biophysics at Vanderbilt University:
Sit down with [your] geneticist in Philadelphia will be the best way. This is pretty new stuff so they will be as up to date as anyone.
