Go back to the GMA page and read the article on the teen who has found her voice. Fortunately she is old enough to read and write. There are adaptive programs using symbols to comminicate which may be found through local Easter Seals organizations. I know these programs are used by quadraplegics and those having communicative disabilities. good luck.

Hello,

I have a 6 years old son with PDD- Autism. I and wife are hard of hearing. We have two children a daughter 8 years old not autism. Our son entered early intervention at 2 and hald years old. We as family used total communications voices, American Sign language, pictures and expose to social outing with friends and family.

Since our son is able to repeat words back with command with the American sign Language and his PACE book demonstrating communication needs.

He social very well with sister and friends who he sees often.

It would be a great tool for the Autism Community to include American Sign Language as non verbal to communicate with family  with autism child which will reduce frustration with family.

Gary
