My daughter is pregnant with her first child. We received some info about saving the cord blood. We are very torn. Has anyone done this or can anyone tell us more about it. She is a single mother so there is not alot of money to spare but if this could save his or her life in the future we will find a way to finance. I just wonder what other peoples opinion was on this. I watch GMA every morning and have it taping in case I'm not home but i cannot recall hearing anything about this in the past. The advancements in this research is amazing. It states that in 2007 over 40 diseases were treatable with cord blood and the odds of being diagnosed by age 50 with a disease that is treatable with cord blood stem cells was 1 in 100 in 2007. It also states that researchers are now exploring potential new treatment using cord blood for condition like diabetes and heart disease. Even though this will be hard for us financially I cannot imagine passing on this if this could save the life of this child or another family member in the future.

I took it from the 3 words segment at the end of the year with the gma family that Marisol, (not sure how to spell her name) the weekend weather girl, is also pregnant. Has she considered doing this? I would love to see a segment on this. I value the opinion of your staff very much.

Hopefully, there's never a need for the blood, but storing it is a form of health insurance (for both the baby and other family members) and we didn't want to regret our decision down the road.  A couple things we did that you can also do to help with the expense...  Set up a gift registry at CBR and let family and friends help defray the expense by contributing.  Also use the $250 coupon from
