My daughter who is 5 years old. She was diagnosed with excema. She is on Elidel and Singular and takes Benadryl twice a day. The last couple of days her eyes have been puffy and very itchy and her nose is running. Should I bring her to the Dr. or is there something I can do without putting her on another medicine?

Hi kristineluoma and thank you for your question. Here is an answer from Wesley Burks, M.D., Professor and Chief, Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, Duke University Medical Center:
Thank you for an excellent question and a common one for young children. It is likely your child has allergic rhinitis. The best therapy for allergic disease is avoidance of the allergen that causes symptoms and then medical therapy. The first thing that needs done is to determine if your child has allergic rhinitis and then what they may be allergic to. Then the physician can decide with you among the available treatment options of antihistamines and nasal steroids the one that is best for your child.
